I mainly returned to give you guys the fic updates I promised so long ago.
Since I'm too lazy to find my old thread, I'll just make a new one.
The Young Universe: The Beginning, the Birth of the Alpine, and the Creation of Demigods
“Demigod” literally means half god (“demi” meaning half and god meaning, well, god), and that’s exactly what they are: half gods. Even though they can be created by a god and a human giving birth to a child, demigods created like this are far and few in between. The actual demigod race was created by the Alpine: the first mortal race.
When the big bang occurred there was a lot of energy left over and this energy transformed itself into an ultimate being. This being called him self Thirindale and he is who is known as the Archgod. It was he who created all the gods and goddess that currently reside in this realm. The gods and goddesses created servants for themselves known as angels and demons. The angels and demons were the first beings to settle into the mortal universe, but they were not mortal. The angel and the demons had separate civilizations that warred with each other for control of the universe. It was this constant feuding that crippled their development and eventually reduced both civilizations to primitive tribes. It wasn’t until 4000 years later that the universe would give birth to the first race of mortal beings: the Alpine.
The gods were all surprised because they didn’t think the universe was capable of creating things. Unlike them, the Alpine only lived for 40 – 50 years and when they died, their minds were recycled and entered other bodies (it was a form of reincarnation). The gods were not familiar with death because they lived forever. They asked Thirindale about it and he told them that they cannot die because they are all minds without bodies. They continued to watch the Alpine closely and saw them do something they had never thought of: develop technology. The gods never needed technology because they could do whatever they wanted with little to no effort.
After 20,000 years, the Alpine started traveling to other planets (something else that gods were unfamiliar with because their universe did not have planets and they did not need machines to travel long distances). The Alpine discovered angels and demons during their interstellar expeditions. At first they were dissected and studied, something the gods disapproved of, but Thirindale told them that it was not their place in intervene in the affairs of the mortal universe. They learned from the angels about immortality and gods, two things they had never heard of before. Despite the numerous dissections DNA analysis performed on the angels they had come across, little was known about them. 200 years later, the Alpine discovered entire planets inhabited by angels and demons. They were impressed by the strength and durability of both races and started using them as slaves. It was during this time period that the Alpine became increasing interested in extending the length of their lives, which, despite all their technology, as still less than 100 years. They started doing more experiments on angels and demons and even took DNA samples. At first there was little to no success until one Alpine finally mapped the angel genome. Demons were then thrown into obscurity and all of the genetic research focused on angels. |

The Alpine were amazed by all the natural advantages angels had over their race. They came in many colors (all of which were shades of brown) and had skin instead of the scales the alpine had. They were also extremely adaptable and didn’t required the almost tropical climate Alpine needed to survive (they later figured out that this was because their blood was warm). Their brains were also larger. At this time Alpine looked more like reptiles than the humanoid forms we currently know them to have. It was all the genetic research on angels that caused them to splice the DNA of the angels with their own. After 100 years, the form of the Alpine had completely changed and they looked very similar to angels. The only difference was that they didn’t have wings and maintained the advantages of their previous form (stronger bone structure, telepathy, and the ability to run faster and jump higher). This also added a considerable amount of years to their lifespan. Instead of living only 40 or 50 years, they could live for 200-250 years.
It was 500 years after this that the Alpine first started experimenting with creating life. Their first attempt at making sentient life failed. The species wasn’t as intelligent as they hoped and only lived for 5 years. Their second attempt had more success. The second species was created in their image, but was considerably weaker. This species was known as Humans. They didn’t live very long by Alpine standards (60 – 80 years), but they were very intelligent and adaptable. After 10,000 years of watching and analyzing this race they decided that it was time to set them free. There weren’t very many of them (only about 9,000) so they easily fit on one of the Alpine’s Megacarriers. They were to be dropped off on Earth and thought the basics of those to run their civilization, but something went wrong and the ship crashed on the planet instead and all contact was lost. The Human race was presumed dead.
During the 10,000 years that they were watching the Humans they had created, they had managed to get a hold of god DNA. After they lost contact with the humans, they started working on another race. They hoped to splice god DNA with this other race before the used it on themselves. They recreated the Human race, but this time with god DNA. The first generation of this race was very brittle and died out after a few months. 50 years later, the Alpine tried again and succeeded. They realized that this race would be a lot stronger than they were so they developed a material that could be fired in a beam of light or could be used to make containment facilities. The name of this material was Starklite. Simply touching this material would dissolve the flesh of a demigod, but was harmless to Alpine.
The demigod were amazing because they stopped aging once the reached their peak, which was around 18 -25, depending on which species of demigod they were. After 20,000 years the Alpine gained enough knowledge about them to splice their own DNA with that of a god’s. This allowed the Alpine to become gods and after 100 years of getting used their status, they set the demigods free (with no technical difficulties) on a planet named Marius and left the mortal universe to go to the universe they had created for themselves, and so began the Demigod civilization. |

Prologue: From the Beginning of the Demigod Civilization to Now
By our calendar, this story takes place in 2645 and the Legion of Stars has been reformed after 100 years of disunity and 5 years of civil war. However, this pertains to the mortal races of this realm and that’s not who this story is about.
For the demigods this is the 27,000th year of the Fifth Era. Here is a list of all the eras.
First Era – Era Independence 7,000,000 years ago to 5,000,000 years ago.
The demigods had been dropped off on Marius and were living on their own during this time. The Alpine guided them socially, but they pretty much had to start from scratch as far as technology went. After 100 years of guidance, the Alpine left and the demigods joined up with members of their own species and formed tribes. These tribes interacted with each other frequently and most disputes between the tribes were solved peacefully. As technology progress, however, each tribe became more territorial and a bunch of miniature empires were formed.
Second Era – The Feudal Era 5,000,000 years ago to 4,000,000 years ago.
It was during this era that the miniature empires formed in the previous era started battling each other. These empires were all very advanced and the constant treat of war demanded the need for even more advances. More advances led to more weapons and more weapons led to more war. It was one tribe, however, that advanced the most: the Phoenix Tribe. The Phoenix Tribe desired to unite the planet under one peaceful empire and that’s exactly what happened.
Third Era – Era of the Great Empire 4,000,000 years ago to 2,500,000 years ago.
This era argued by many historians to be the Golden Age of the Demigods. During this time, there was no war, no elitism, and mass death. It was said that demigods could live hundreds of thousands of years before being killed during this era. Even though they had possessed the technology to do so for 2,000,000 years, the Demigods decided to create their own universe for them to live in so the could exist without being disturbed by the mortal races. In their personal universe, they populated hundreds of planets and their population grew to 4 trillion.
Unfortunately, a monarchy like the one of the Great Empire was not designed to manage so many people. The Mages started being oppressed by the Psion and being used as slaves along with angels and demons. This caused massive rebellions to break out across the universe and the Great Empire collapsed. It is said that all the members of the Phoenix species were executed by a group of rebels so that there would be no one left to inherit the throne.
Fourth Era – The Era of Regression 2,500,000 years ago to 2,000,000 years ago.
With no one left to rule them, the demigods regressed back into a feudal state. The mages were still used as slaves and most of the demigods lived in poverty.
The Fifth Era – Era of Separation 2,000,000 years ago to now.
The mages left their home worlds and moved to the opposite side of the universe where they lived free of Psion oppression. Both the mages and the Psion formed separate republics. The two groups learned to leave each other alone and drew an imaginary line across the universe to separate themselves, but there will always be those who cross the line. In recent years tensions between the two sides have increased and small battles have ensued near the border. It was only a matter of time before there would be a full scale war. |

Chapter 1: The Numens
It was a normal day on Marius, the Psion home world and the place where the demigods started their civilization. Marius was completely urbanized and had buildings that were 10 miles high (which were vertical cities in themselves). Most of its buildings, however, were around 1000 – 6000 feet high. One of these buildings was the Numen complex. The Numens were a mix between the FBI, the CIA, and the Jedi Knights. They were all trained in the arts of lentation and telekinesis and used beam sabers as their primary weapons. Even though there were less than 100,000 of the throughout the Psion Republic, they were the most feared force in the Demigod universe.
The Numen complex is not only where the Numens work, it is the place where they live as well. It is on the 200th floor of this building, the place where the younger Numens are trained, that our story begins.
“I don’t know, Dolee, that seems a little extreme to me,” said a white demigod with blond hair and green eyes. He wore the standard Numen melee clothing, which was a brown long-sleeved shirt with the Numen symbol on the back of it; loose brown pants, and black boots.
“I’m telling the truth. The Mages want to create their own universe so they can be away from us!” said Dolee, who was also white, but had brown hair and blue eyes. He also wore a blue headband with two diamond shaped pieces on metal pointing up wards over his ears. He wore a blue robe that matched his headband.
“Technology like that hasn’t been around since the days of the Alpine!” said the blond headed boy.
“They may have discovered something, Alex, who knows what lost technology they cold have found be investigating the old Alpine planets?” retorted Dolee.
“Well if they are trying to create their own universe, then why are they attacking us?” asked Alex.
“Um……” muttered Dolee.
“Cadets, what are you talking about?” asked a demanding voice.
Recognizing the voice, Dolee and Alex quickly stood up. “Master Derin!” they both shouted.
Master Derin was tall for a Demigod (about 7’2”) and wore the standard Numen Master robe, which was green and white and had the Numen symbol on the back of it. He was blacks and shaved his head and beard. Despite his intimating appearance, he had a heart of gold and was the favored by many students over the other masters.
“We were discussing the reason why the Mages have started attacking us,” responded Dolee.
“Okay. Well I came to tell you two that we have few new members arriving today and as rookies you are obligated to make them feel welcome,” stated Master Derin.
“Okay,” said Alex. “We will be sure to make them feel welcome.”
“Good so go down to the docking bay and WITH THE OTHER ROOKIES AND INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!!!” shouted Master Derin.
“Yes sir!” shouted Dolee and Alex in unison.
They headed towards the elevator. |

Chapter 2: The New Recruits
Dolee and Alex got there just in time to find a place near the front so they could see. They were later joined by two other students. A white brunette with gray eyes named Helena and an Asian-looking (known as Maltesian in the demigod world) boy with eyes almost as dark as his hair named Renco.
“Its about time you two got here,” said Helena. “We were looking all over for you!”
“Actually we just got here ourselves; Helena is just trying to make it look like she was concerned about you,” stated Renco.
Helena smacked Renco upside the head. “Shut up!” she yelled.
The docking bay gate began to open and they could hear the sound of an approaching starship. The ship was a miniature transport starship meant for carrying two pilots and 10 passengers. The ship was nearly a perfect rectangle and had no wings or steering fins. Its only means of propulsion was its anti-gravity field and an small engine capable of traveling only 5000 mph in the atmosphere, but had the space travel capabilities of any other starship in the Psion Armada, which meant it could go to the nearest galaxy in a minute. This one was painted white and had the Numen symbol on it.
It landed and the passenger door near the rear of the ship opened, revealing one shadowy figure. The figure stepped outside the ship and into the well-lighted docking bay, exposing him as just a guard. Next, one of the other masters stepped out of the door. This one was Master Vina. She had light skin and green hair and was one of the oldest masters in the complex and also one of the most powerful.
“Attention rookies!” shouted Master Vina.
The docking bay went completely silent.
“Allow me introduce the three new recruits!” she continued.
Another figure emerged from the ship. This one was a demigoddess with light skin, brown hair, and purple eyes. She wore a tight red shirt that hugged her voluptuous but semi-muscular upper body. She sleeves of the shirt stopped at her shoulders, leaving her defined arms exposed.
“I like her,” whipsered Renco. “Her abs are defined enough to be sexy, but not too defined so that they are manly.”
“How did I know you were going to comment on her looks?” asked Alex.
“Hey, I’m just checking out the new recruits. That’s what we are here for after all,” replied Renco.
“This young lady is named Kristen and is a human that became a demigoddess through divine intervention. She specializes in D-Cell combat,” said Master Vina.
The rookies gave Kristen a very welcoming ovation.
“The next one is named Stephanie and is another human that became a demigoddess through divine intervention. He specializes in healing,” announced Master Vina.
Stephanie stepped into the light. She too was white and had brown hair. Her eyes were a very dark blue and she looked a little bit taller than Kristen. She wasn’t as well-built as Kristen, but she was very “gifted” in the chest area, and this could be seen even though she was wearing a white Numen robe.
The ovation continued.
“B-b-b-b-b-boobs,” muttered Renco as he stared at her chest in awe.
Even Alex and Dolee had to gawk at her for a minute or two.
Helena smacks the three of them upside the head.
“How could you guys fawn over an inferior being like her” asked Helena indignantly.
“She’s not a human anymore and even if she was, chests like that don’t appear very often,” said Renco as he continued to star at Stephanie’s breasts.
“Once an inferior being, always an inferior being,” replied Helena.
“It looks like someone is jealous,” said Renco while still staring at Stephanie’s breast.
“I’M NOT JEALOUS!!!” shouted Helena.
“Shut up you two!” ordered Dolee. “Master Vina is introducing the third person.”
“Last but not least we have a natural demigod from Denirexia. He specializes in non-elemental combat and telekinesis. Please welcome Loto!” shouted Master Vina.
Loto came into the light. He was black and had a very good looking afro. He wore sun goggles around his eyes and wore a red Numen robe.
The ovation continued until Master Vina spoke again.
“These are your new class mates and training partners so treat with respect. They have already been assigned to classes and training programs so many of you shall see them tomorrow. Now, you are all dismissed!” shouted Master Vina.
The rookies cleared out of the docking bay in a loud but orderly manner.
“I’m going to go introduce myself to Stephanie,” said Renco with a smile.
“Shut up,” said Helena.
Two days later…..
Stephanie and Kristin are conversing in the Numen library about how amazing Demigods are.
Renco, Alex and Loto walked in and Renco immediately noticed Stephanie (or more like Stephanie’s chest). “S-s-s-s-she’s here,” muttered Renco.
“Who is he talking about?” asked Loto.
“Stephanie,” replied Alex. “Every since she arrived he’s done nothing but talk about her.”
“I see,” replied Loto. “Hey Renco.”
“What?” asked Renco as he reluctantly averted his eyes from Stephanie.
“Why don’t you go over and talk to her?” asked Loto.
“But I—,” muttered Renco.
“Come on!” interrupted Loto. “She’s not that hard to talk to and Alex and I here will back you up if necessary!”
“Okay,” said Renco.
He slowly advanced toward where Stephanie and Kristen were sitting.
Kristen and Stephanie were not aware of the fact that Renco was approaching them and continued to converse.
“It kind of makes you feel inferior, doesn’t it?” asked Kristen.
“What does?” asked Stephanie.
“The Demigods. I mean, look at all they have: Technology, immortality, and far more power than we could ever comprehend. Even this building, which hasn’t been changed in 200,000 years, is far more advanced than anything we could build on Earth,” explained Kristen.
“I don’t think much about it. We are Demigoddesses now so we really don’t have anything to worry about,” said Stephanie.
“......”
“What?”
“You are the wrong person to talk to when someone wants to have a deep conversation.”
“I’m just not into the all that philosophical stuff.”
“Aren’t you at least a little nervous? How do we know that the other students will accept us? We both know that many Demigods view humans, or anything that was once human, as inferior. How are we going to make friends will no one will associate with us?’
“Do Demigods even make friends?”
The table goes silent for a few seconds.
“I can’t wait to go shopping!” exclaimed Stephaine. “I wonder what kinds of clothes Demigods wear. I bet they are futuristic see-through clothes!”
Renco arrived at their table.
“I wish they had see-thorough clothing. I would buy load of them and pay demigoddess thousands of credits to wear them for me!” said Renco.
Alex and Loto are listening are watching and listening to Renco from afar.
“The first thing he says if perverted,” said Alex. “He could have at least waited until the middle of the conversation.”
“At this rate they will never talk to him again,” asserted Loto. “Come on, let’s go help him out.”
Alex and Loto start approaching the table where Stephanie and Kristen were sitting.
“Hey, more visitors!” shouted Stephanie. “I’m Stephanie.”
“We know,” responded Alex. “We all there when Master Vina introduced you.”
“So we hear that you guys are a little apprehensive about being alone with a bunch of people who have been Demigods all their lives and are worried about making friends,” said Alex.
He extended his hand to them and said, “I’m Alex. A demigod is a demigod, as far as I’m concerned. Welcome to the Numen compound!”
They shook his hand.
“Thanks for welcoming us!” said Kristen. “That made me feel a lot better. We already met Renco here and he has an amazing amount of knowledge on female anatomy.”
“Well when you’re like Renco, it’s kind of hard not to,” stated Alex with a chuckle.
“What do you mean by that?” asked Kristen.
“You will find out later,” replied Alex.
“Hey, Loto,” said Stephanie.
“What?” asked Loto.
“How did you make friends so fast?”
“I don’t know. I just went up and started talking to a few people. There are a few others I’d like you to meet, but they were busy with other tasks.”
“What were you guys reading about?” asked Alex.
“Well I was reading this book called The History of Demigod intervention in Mortal Affairs,” replied Kristen. “It’s quite interesting. I didn’t know that the Way of Noir cult that contributed to the fall of the LS was run by demigod. It says here that Noir, the leader of the cult, and his daughter Etha were both killed when Ness, Zando, Rodo, Crystal, Morfos, Patricia, and Crazy Tom attacked Noir’s flagship. There was one thing about this book that I found really interesting, however.”
What was that?” asked Loto.
“The part about Kuberr,” replied Kristen. “It says here he was a leading officer in the Way of Noir and was responsible for all the Demigod assassinations that occurred during this time period. He also took pleasure in torturing people.”
“He was sadomasochistic,” said Renco. “That’s why he enjoyed torturing people so much.”
“What does ‘sadomasochistic’ mean?” asked Stephanie.
Renco whispered something her ear.
“Ewwww!” she shouted with a scrunched up face.
“He was very powerful, though,” said Alex. “He took on both Ness and Rodo at the same time and nearly killed both of them, and he probably would have if Patricia had not triggered the self-destruct sequence on Noir’s flagship.”
“He must not have been that powerful because he’s dead now,” said Kristen.
“The truth is that no one really knows. Every historian will say that he was presumed dead and it is widely assumed that he is actually dead, but I find it hard to believe that someone like him would die just because he didn’t off the ship before it exploded,” said Alex.
“Exactly, even Rodo and Ness don’t really know if he’s still alive or not,” agreed Renco.
“You mean Rodo and Ness are still alive?” asked Stephanie.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t they be?” asked Alex.
“Aren’t they kind of….old?”
“Demigods stop aging once the hit their physical peak, which is around the age of 24,” explained Renco.
“Oh, I see. Does that mean we will stop aging too?” asked Stephanie.
“You are Demigoddesses, aren’t you?” asked Alex.
“Yeah,”
Master Derin walked up to the group.
“It’s nice to see you making the new comers feel welcome, but break time is over and it’s time for you guys to start your training,” stated Master Derin.
“Yes master!” replied the group. |

Chapter 3: Desperate Times, Trouble with Helena, and Placement Exams
Two years have passed since they all met in the library. By this time they had completed all the basic academic and training courses and were now ready for their placement exam. This would determine their power-class as demigods and their future as a Numen. The power classes ranged from E to SSS, “E” being the lowest and “SSS” being the best of the best.
Also during this time, the battles between the Mages and the Psions at the borders of their territories had evolved into a full scale war between the two sides, a war that the Psions were currently losing. It turns out that the Mages are training the Brocks, the Mage equivalent to the Numens, for offensive combat and are sending into battle against Psion soldiers. This has caused the Psion army to suffer great losses.
Not to far from the Numen Complex lies the Director of Intergalactic Security’s building. It is about 2 miles high and is heavily guarded. On the 7th basement level of this building is Donia’s, the Director of Intergalactic Security, office. She is the one who directs the Numens and the Psion army. She had been in this position for 500 years and had gotten the Demigods out of many binds before, but she was running out of ideas. Everything she tried in this war ended up exploding in her face and gaining the Mages another victory.
“Desperate times call for desperate measures,” she thought to herself.
“Computer, give me a list off all retired military personnel with in a power class of S or higher,” ordered Donia.
The computer brought up a list and she studied it for a few minutes.
“Computer,” ordered Donia. “Contact Rodo, Zando, Ness, Citrus, Karissa, and Samantha!”
Back at the Numen complex….
Stephanie walked up to Loto and Dolee after class.
“Hey guys!” called Stephanie.
“What?” asked Renco and Dolee in unison.
“Did you guys hear that they are giving us a one day break before they are making us take the placement test?” asked Stephanie.
“Yeah we know,” said Dolee. “They told us about it during class.”
“Well I wanted to know if you guys wanted to do something tomorrow,” said Stephanie
“Like what?” asked Loto.
“I don’t know. I was hoping you guys knew a cool place to hang out.” Said Stephanie.
Renco, Kristen and Alex walked up.
“There’s a new mall a few hundred miles away from here. I could ask for permission to use a space-car to take us there,” suggested Renco.
“Are you talking about the Gigapark? I’ve heard so many cool things about that place!” shouted Kristen.
“I have to agree with Kristen; checking out that mall does sound like a good idea. It’s currently the biggest mall on Marius,” said Alex.
“Okay, we have two for the mall. What about you guys?” asked Renco.
“I’m cool with it,” said Loto.
“I THINK WE SHOULD GO NOW!!!!!” shouted Stephanie and she jumped up and down.
Renco’s jaw dropped and the started staring at her moving chest.
“Could you do that again?” asked Renco.
Kristen smacked Renco upside the head.
“Oh sorry, what about you Dolee?” asked Renco.
“Fine with me.” said Dolee.
“Then it’s settled. I’ll ask for a space-car that can carry six people,” said Renco.
“What about me???” asked a loud, piercing voice from across the hall.
“Oh no, it’s Helena,” mumbled Loto.
“Just when a day is starting to turn out good, she has to show up!” said Kristen.
“Damn,” said Renco.
“Weren’t you two really good friends, Renco?” asked Dolee.
“We had a falling out in recent years mainly because I hang out with those ‘two inferior beings,’ so I decided that I didn’t want to associate with a racist,” explained Renco.
“Helena, why do you keep following us around?” asked Kristen. “Isn’t it obvious that we do not want you around?”
Helena stormed towards the group, knocking over whoever was in her way. She got to the group and picked up Kristen by the neck. Stephanie tried to stop her, but she got punched in the chest. She hunched over and cradled her boob. Alex hit her in the back, causing her to drop Kristen and Loto quickly caught her.
“What the hell, Helena?” asked Renco in a pissed off tone. “Her comment did not warrant that attack!”
“Humans have no rights; they are merely objects at the whim of demigods and the same goes for those who choose to associate with such tools.” explained Helena.
By this time Master Vina had arrived at the scene.
I saw what you did, Helena, come with me. Helena grudgingly went with Master Vina
“Do you think she will be kicked out?” asked Stephanie.
“I doubt it; Helena’s master, Master Sandor, shares the same opinions as her. At most she will get a warning.” explained Dolee.
“Still, can’t Master Vina punish her?” asked Stephanie.
“No, students are only under the jurisdiction of their masters. Master Vina can make suggestions, but the decision is ultimately up to Master Sandor,” clarified Dolee.
“So where is she taking her?”
“Probably to Master Sandor.”
The next day arrived. Loto and the others enjoyed their free day at Gigapark and returned to the Numen complex just before curfew time.
Since Demigods don’t sleep, Loto and the others were up all night studying or trying to iron out any weakness they might have in their technique.
The next morning…..
One of the masters contacted all the rookies through the holophone in their quarters with instructions and details about the placement test.
“Today you will begin the placement test,” said the master. “This test will determine your where are your placed in the Numen ranks. This test contains the standard military power test as well as a test on the skills we have taught you here at the Numen compound. You will receive two power ranks: your official power rank and your Numen power ranks. Both will on a scale from “E” to “SSS,” “SSS” being the highest and “E” being the lowest. You will be summoned individually to take this test.”
Loto’s turn to take the test came up so he went to the holo-trainer room.
He entered the room and saw Master Vina, Master Derin, and Master Grant all sitting a a circular desk with several holoscreens around it. They were used to display images without a form of containment. It was made with the same technology that caused their beam sabers to stop once they reached a certain height instead of going on forever.
“State your name,” ordered Master Grant.
“Loto,” replied Loto.
“This test will use a device called a holo-trainer. It will generate the world that you will be tested in. This world will be a real to you as the real world you will feel the wounds you receive in that world, but they will go away as soon as the holo-trainer is deactivated or as soon as you leave the holo-trainer,” stated Master Derin.
A door opened up a few feet behind the three masters, revealing a bright white light that prevented anything else behind the door from being seen.
“As soon as you go through that door, the test will begin,” said Master Vina.
Loto entered the door and was suddenly in a tropical forest. This world was indeed real; he could free the warm breeze blowing against his face, hear the sounds of various animals, and smell the smells of the forest. |

Chapter 4: The Test
Loto stood there awhile and waited for further instructions, but there were none.
“I guess this is a test of how I react to the situation,” though Loto to himself.
He started walking through the forest and tripped over something on the ground. He stood back up and turned to where the object was. It seemed to be a datapad that was only left there recently. He activated the data pad and read the message on it. “It’s been 13 days since the crash and all the other crew members have been killed by the creatures of this forest. I’m the only one left and fear my time is short. Even now I can hear the sounds of the creatures that killed my fellow crew members,” read the datapad.
“It looks like that I’m here to survive using the skills I have learned during my time as a rookie,” thought Loto to himself. As soon as he finished that thought he heard a strange growling sound coming from the undergrowth to his left.
The growling became louder and a cat-like creature leaped from the bushes and poised itself to attack. It let out a roar and several other similar growls were heard in the area. In a matter of seconds, Loto was surrounded by five of these cat-like creatures. Loto drew his Numen beam saber and prepared for battle.
Loto had heard of these creatures before. They were called drulids and were from the planet Nolixia, a planet created by a demigod that was killed over 1,000,000 years ago, and like all the other creatures from that planet, the were ruthless hunters. He didn’t have time to think long because one of the drulids had leapt toward him. Luckly, Loto evaded the attack and managed to nail it in the side with his foot. The drulid yelped in pain as it hit the ground and rolled back a few feet. Loto smiled and gave a faint chuckle. His smiled quickly dissipated when he saw the drulid stand back up relatively uninjured. “This is going to be harder than I thought,” though Loto.
Another drulid leaped toward him. This time Loto moved to slow and the drulid slashed him across the face. He would have lost an eye had it not been for the sun goggles he war wearing. The goggles were unharmed as well because they were made out of a tough material. Angered by new “tattoo” the drulid had given him, Loto stabbed the drulid with his beam saber. The drulid howled in pain as it lurched up its own blood. Loto removed his blade, stuck his hand in the wound, and pulled out the drulid’s heart. The smell of blood drove the remaining drulids went in to a frenzy. They scrambled for the corpse of their fallen comrade, tearing each other apart as the tried. “It’s a good thing drulids are also cannibalistic,” thought Loto to himself as the tossed the heart in the direction opposite of the one he intended to go. The drulids saw the heart fly and scrambled towards it, abandoning the corpse they mangled each other to get to. Loto grinned and continued walking.
He continued through the forest until he approached another clearing. This one had four stones and four holes that looked like the stones could fit in them. As soon as he approached one of the stones, he heard a voice. “To get to the next area and complete the test, you must use telekinesis to place all four stones into the holes,” said the voice. “Your score will be based on how long is take you to move all four stones into place.” Loto moved them in 30 seconds and the four stones started glowing once they were in place. A vertical disk of blue energy formed in the middle. “Step inside the gate to advance to the next level,” said a voice. Loto complied.
He was transported to a circular room. At the other side was another Numen. “This is the final part of your test,” said the voice “the Numen on the other side of this room is a combat program named Bob. You will need to defeat him using the skills we have taught you as well as your own to complete the test.” Once the voice stopped talking, Bob charged forward. Loto drew his beam saber and ran toward Bob head on, but he moved to the side at the last second, spun around, and slashed Bob across the back. Bob staggered for a second, giving Loto a chance to strike again. Loto utilized the opportunity by hurling a fireball at Bob. It was a direct hit that knocked Bob backwards a few feet. Bob wasn’t a simulation to be pushed around, though. He quickly stood and countered y hurling lighting bolts at Loto. Loto managed to dodge part of the attack but he was hit enough lightning to be become numb. While Loto was immobile Bob started punching him in the chest. Loto regained feeling in his body and punched Bob in the face. He tried to move, but the pain in his chest prevented him from doing so. “That bastard must have broken something,” thought Loto to himself.
Since his injury hindered his ability to maneuver he would have to end this quickly. Bob decided to take advantage of Loto’s weakness and charge forward, knowing quite well that Loto would not be able to dodge in time. Unfortunately, Bob didn’t factor in Loto’s intelligence. Loto used his telekinesis to freeze Bob in place. He then hurled his beam saber at him. The beam saber nailed him right between the eyes, destroying his brain. Bob disintegrated into a dazzling blue light that quickly dissipated. The simulation ended and Loto was back in the room he was in before he entered the holotrainer. Like they said, his wounds didn’t follow him out of the holotrainer. “Well done,” said Master Vina. “You will receive your scores tomorrow.” |

Chapter 5: Test Results and the Central Lobby
Two weeks had passed since they all had taken the placement test. The results were in and each Numen was sent their scores via the communication devices in their rooms. Loto checked his scores and they read as follows:
Beam Saber skills: A
Telekinesis: S+
Lentation: A-
Other skills: A+
Overall Numen rank: A++
Overall Military Rank: A
“YEAH!!!!” yelled Loto with excitement. He ran out of his quarters and went to find the others. He passed several people in hall; some were laughing—because they loved their scores, others were crying—because they were happy or upset, and some were angry—because they thought they were victims of a twisted system. The others were all sting at a table in the library discussing their scores. “Hey Loto!” shouted Dolee. “What did you get?”
“An ‘A++’ over all Numen rank and an ‘A’ for and overall military rank,” replied Loto.
“Wow,” said Dolee “You did better me. I got an Overall Numen rank of an ‘A’ and an overall Military rank of a ‘B.’ It was my ‘SS’ rank in beam saber skills that allowed me to get such high overall scores.”
“He got the best beam saber skills score out of all the rookies in the history of the school,” added Stephanie.
“What about you Stephanie?” asked Loto. “What did you get?”
“An ‘A’ for an overall Numen score and a ‘B’ for an overall military score,” replied Stephanie.
“I got an ‘A+’ for an overall Numen score and a ‘B+’ for an overall military score,” said Renco.
“I got the same scores as Renco,” said Kristen.
“I got a an A- overall Numen score and a B- for an overall military score,” said Alex.
“Those are all very good grades,” said Master Derin.
“BAAAHHH!!!!” shouted Stephanie as she leaped up in her chair. She whirled around quickly to see who it was that just spoke. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw that it was just Master Derin.
“Master Derin, you startled me,” said Stephanie.
Master Derin gave her a weird stare, blinked, and said,” I came to tell you guys to meet in the central lobby; it is time you guys meet your new instructors.”
Master Derin started walking towards the library’s exit. Loto and the others followed. The central lobby was located in the center of the Numen Complex, which was 90 floors below them and was connected to several docking bays. The lobby was filled with trees imported from all over the Demigod universe and a couple areas for private flora study. The central lobby was more than just a meeting place; there was an abundance of state of the art computers and teleporters for short distance travel and emergency relocation. Despite its appeal, however, the central lobby was rarely in use; its only official use was a place where Psion Republican soldiers could enter or leave in large numbers.
They arrived in the lobby to find it empty. Loto expected that there would at least be a few other people here since new instructors were arriving, but the lack of other Numen there proved him wrong.
“Where is everyone?” asked Renco.
“Where they are supposed to be,” replied Master Derin. Master Derin was often cryptic in his replies. This interested some of his students and annoyed others, but neither camp could figure out why he was so obscure.
“What is that supposed to mean?” asked Dolee.
“It means that there is no ‘everyone;’ you guys are the only ones supposed to be here,” replied Master Derin with a clearer, but still obscure, answer.
“Why are we here?” asked Stephanie.
“Weren’t you listening?” asked Loto. “We are here to meet our new instructors.”
Stephanie’s faced turned red. She was embarrassed by the fact that the she forgot, but also stunned by the harshness of Loto’s answer.
“Well I was just wondering because I don’t see anyone here and Master Derin is acting funny,” replied Stephanie, trying to save her dignity.
“He always acts that way,” said Loto. ‘Stop trying to save yourself!”
Stephanie frowned hand hung her head. Just then the sound of a starship engine was heard and a starship landing on one of the landing pads outside could be seen out the window.
“They are here,” said master Derin.
Ten minutes later……
Two men walked through one of the doors that led to a docking bay. One of them was a tall, black demigod with brown eyes. His hair was cut very short. The one was white and of average height. He had jet black that was cut short and aqua eyes. Loto, Alex, Dolee, and Renco immediately dropped to the floor and laid prostrate as the awaited the approach of the new arrivals, but Stepahnie and Kristen remained standing.
“This is such an amazing honor!” shouted Alex, barely containing his excitement.
“I never would have expected anything like this,” said Renco.
Dolee and Loto were rendered speechless.
“He’s cute!” shouted Stephanie with hearts in her eyes.
Sighs were heard on the ground.
“What?” asked Stephaine, wondering why they were all upset or on the floor, for that matter. “Why are you guys on the floor, anyway?”
Alex stood up. He was tempted to slap her across the face, but he decided to educate her instead. “The black one is Rodo and the white one is Ness--they are heroes in both our universe and the mortal universe,” explained Alex.
“Oh, I see,” said Stephanie. “But whey were you bowing down them?”
“Errrr,” growled Alex. “Where were you when they handed out the brains?”
Stephanie hung her head sand said, “I’m sorry. I just got here a few months ago so I don’t know much about anything.”
“She’s right, Alex,” said Master Derin. “She did only get here a few months ago. Maybe you should give her break.”
“You’re right,” said Alex in a calmer tone. “I’m sorry.”
“I forgive you,” said Stephanie.
“And everyone live happily ever after,” said one of the two approaching men.
Started by this statement, Alex quickly turned around to see Rodo standing right behind him. Alex felt a rush of excitement and then blacked out. |

Chapter 6: The New Instructors, Painful Memories, and the First Assignment
Alex woke up with Stephanie, and Loto hovering over him. He managed to stand back up with Loto’s help.
“Are you going to be okay?” asked Rodo. “I know I’m sexy but I’ve never had anyone faint because I talked to them.”
“I’m not gay,” slurred Alex, still trying to recover from fainting.
“It was joke, son,” replied Rodo with a smile.
“So why are you two here?” asked Renco.
“What do you not want us to be here because we can leave,” stated Rodo in a joking manner.
“Oh no no no!” shouted Renco. “That’s not what I meant at all. What I meant was what business do you have here?”
“I guess I can tell you now,” said Master Derin. “You guys are the top scorers on the Numen Placement Test. So you have been selected to train and work under Rodo and Ness.”
“AWESOME!!!!!!” shouted Renco, jumping up and down like a little school girl.
“This is indeed a great honor,” said Loto calmly.
Alex fainted again and Dolee started shedding tears of joy. Only Kristen and Stephanie stood there with blank stares.
“Umm….who are you guys?” asked Stephanie.
Everyone fell to the floor. Everyone stood back up—including Alex—a few seconds later.
“These are Rodo and Ness,” explained Loto after standing up. “These two are decorated and affluent war heroes. Rodo helped defeat Dymanatrix and almost singled handedly destroyed Anubis, the insane god of the dead. Ness has brought down demigods that threatened the mortal universe. He defeated both Rachel and Noir unassisted and was with Rodo and a few others when they boarded Etna’s ship. Both of them fought Kuberr on that ship, but it was Ness who left him incapacitated long enough for everyone to escape.”
“Not everyone escaped,” interrupted Ness.
“Uh oh… it’s touchy subject time,” declared Rodo.
“Shut up, Rodo,” said Ness. “I lost Crystal in that battle. She was the only woman I had ever truly loved and the only one I ever planned to settle down with, but Kuberr snatched her away from me. I had a future with her and he destroyed it, he destroyed everything.”
“Oh my,” muttered Kristen.
“I will never forgive him for what he did, but I felt that she was avenged when I heard that Kuberr never made it off the ship before it exploded. Now, however, there are reports that he survived the battle and is back in this universe. I hope those reports are inaccurate, but if they aren’t, I will find him and I will make him suffer,” continued Ness.
Loto cringed.
“That’s horrible,” said Stephanie.
“It is worse,” responded Ness. “I could have prevented her death had I followed her to the escape pods, but I let my pride get in the way. I had a score to settle with Etna and wanted to get a shot in before Patricia and Cutie Pie finished her off. Crystal wanted me to come with her, but I assured her that I would be okay and that she should go ahead. I was fool, a damn fool!”
Ness slammed his fist into the floor. “I was a fool,” muttered Ness.
Stephanie erupted into tears. Kristen quickly put her arm around her and walked her away from the group. “I think someone has exceeded their caring capacity,” she said.
“Uhhh….,” muttered Master Derin.
Ness remembered where he was a regained control. “Sorry about that,” he said. “They were just some painful memories.”
“We really should get back to the subject at hand,” stated Rodo.
“Exactly, these two will be your instructors and will guide you on your first assignment,” explained Master Derin.
“Awesome!” shouted Alex. “We’re getting our first assignment!”
“Ah yes,” said Rodo. “Your first assignment will be on Lochaw, a temperate planet in the Corendel star system. There are several reports of Mage activity and the planet has been attacked by terrorist groups affiliated with the Confederacy of Magick Demigods. Your assignment is to put a stop to these attacks and exterminate whoever is responsible.”
“You’re going to help us out, right?” asked Dolee.
“Only if any of you guys are near death or in over your heads,” replied Rodo. |

Chapter 7: Space Travel and an Unusual Welcoming Committee
After 4 hours of preparation, Loto and the others were finally ready to leave. They met Ness and Rodo in the docking bay attached to the central lobby. The group loaded their luggage into a medium-sized starship. The ship was mostly gray, but some parts of the ship were painted green. The design was both primitive and simple (from a birds eye view it looks like a small rectangle placed horizontally in between two symmetrical trapezoids). The ship’s straight edges and lack of wings or fins of any kind indicated that it was not built for atmospheric travel.
“I’ve never seen this kind of ship before,” said Loto. “Is it new?”
“No, this ship is an old transport vessel that was used to move goods to and from Marius 2000 years ago,” replied Rodo.
“No wonder I’ve never seen it before; it’s an old piece of junk’” said Loto.
“Looks can be deceiving,” stated Rodo. “I have modified this ship by equipping it with the latest phasing technology, replacing the old placstituim hull with a tougher--but lighter--metal called sturduim-54, by modifying its shields so that it can take his from the most powerful ships in the Mage Armada, and by equipping it with weapons that far surpass anything you can find on military ships today.”
“Does it have a name?” asked Loto.
“I call it the Greetin,” said Rodo proudly.
“Did you do all the modifications yourself?”
“Yep, the modifications I’ve made to my ship are too far advanced for any Psion, or Mage, modification facility to add.”
Loto was astonished. His first impression of Rodo led him to believe that Rodo was a playful, but simple, guy; he never expected Rodo to be the inventive type. Loto causally glanced at Ness, who was loading thing into the ship. He noticed Ness struggling to lift an object and finally giving up. His attention was drawn to Kristen, who lifted the same object Ness was struggling with easily. Loto’s impression of Ness being a wuss, however, was turning out to be quite accurate.
After loading everything on to the ship, the group headed for Lochaw. The inside of the Greetin and been modified was well; most of the space that had been used to store supplied had been divided up into eight rooms and all the space on the lower level that had been used to store the old engines had been hollowed out for storage. Six of the eight room were living quarters, each equipped with a communications module, an image display unit, a small circular table, two chairs; and a piece of furniture that could be transformed into a sofa, chair, or storage unit. The walls were either blue or gray and there was no device installed that allowed someone to change the color. The other two rooms had two different puposes.. One had a holo-trainer similar to the one in the Numen compound except that this one was more advanced; allowed the user to travel to the astral plane (universe that can only be reached by astral projection; it is shared by both mortals and demigods) while inside and was able to interact with holo-trainers all over the universe. The second one had a modified holo-trainer that was no longer used as a holo-trainer, but as an interactive weapons control system. When activated, it would give the user a full 360 degree view of the area around the ship and the weapons could be fired using this system by throwing punches or kicks at the target. The central area of the ship had been remodeled, and turned into a circular living area with a round table in the center. One wall was made of diamond so people could see outside, but the other wall contained a few computers and a couple of visual display units. Everyone except Rodo, who was in the cockpit, was sitting in the living area at the round table.
Loto and Dolee were playing cards, Renco was staring at Stephanie’s chest, Kristen and Alex were vying for Ness’s attention, and Stephanie sat there staring into space. Finally, Kristen managed to get Ness’s attention long enough to ask him a question. “What can you tell us about Lochaw?” asked Kristen.
“Well, it’s a temperate planet that was a center for commerce back in the days of the Great Empire. Not was it the center of several trade routes, but its local government was also the holder of the patents of several objects used throughout the Great Empire. The combination of these two variables made nearly everyone on the planet very wealthy. At its peak, Lochaw’s affluence surpassed that of Marius itself. However, Lochaw was hit the hardest by the Era of Regression. Its entire economy was based on trade and that was nonexistent during that time period. The planet plunged into poverty in only 200 years. Now it’s a wealthy planet again, but it’s only a shadow of what it was during the years of the Great Empire,” explained Ness.
Rodo’s voice was heard on the intercom, “We will be landing on Lochaw in one hour. The area we are landing in is not expected to be hostile, but be ready for anything.”
The Greetin entered Lochaw’s atmosphere. The surface of the planet was both beautiful and depressing; it was covered with colorful skyscrapers of various shapes and sizes, but there were also charred and dusty ruins that imbedded the fact that this planet was also a war zone. The ship landed at a spaceport twenty miles away from one of the many ruined areas of the planetary metropolis. As soon as the Greetin settled down on the octagonal landing platform, a crowd started to gather near the ship. All of them were wearing rags and carrying improvised suitcases and bags. The ones in front crowded around the door and started banging on it. Their cries could be heard through the metal,” Please, leave this place and take us with you!!” or “Get of this place while you still can!”
“This is horrible!” shouted Stephanie.
“Those must be poorest of the poor; the ones that could not afford—or were not permitted—to leave this planet; they must be the only ones left,” asserted Loto.
“Actually, there are several member of the upper, middle, and lower classes still on this planet; but they are either deep underground in safety shelters, locked up in their homes, or being held as hostages,” said Rodo.
“On Earth, people wouldn’t leave the planets or hide in shelters all over the planet when we were under attack. Why do they do it here?” asked Kristen.
“Well first of all, space travel is more readily available in our universe than it will ever be in mortal universe. Second, most attacks on Earth are organized attacks from another galactic power and terrorism is practically nonexistent. Third, when Earth is attacked, entire sections of the planet are wiped out because of the technological limitations of the aggressors. The Mages could destroy this entire planet if they wanted to, but the see it more valuable to attacked using terrorism and guerilla warfare,” responded Rodo.
“Are the Mages more advanced that us?” asked Kristen.
“Yes, they use the advanced, ancient Magitechnology of the Great Empire. Our only advantage against them is that we outnumber them 2 to 1, but it does not outweigh the fact that for every one ship we bring down they destroy three of ours,” explained Rodo.
“Then why have we lasted so long in this war?”
“Infantry. Our ground forces surpass theirs and that’s why they haven’t been able to take any of our planets, but that’s changing now that they have started adding Brocs—the Mage equivalent to a Numen—to their garrisons. This is the reason why the fact that we are losing this war has become apparent in recent months.”
Back by the door....
The shouts of the peasants could not longer be heard, but they cries were replaced with the sounds of marching and shouts to “clear the way” by a general. Rodo opened the door from the bridge and rushed to join the others. |
