Yeah, this is one of the things that got to me. I said it before in the old thread: I completely understand people being horrified of permanently losing their bending due to its huge cultural significance in each of the four main nations (which I feel TLA goes into fairly well, especially for the Water Tribe), not to mention that LoK also highlights how much of a status/power symbol it can be if you're good at it (and again just look at the Fire Nation royal family in TLA and how messed up they were because of how strongly they valued it, among other things that made them pretty messed up). But then the end of LoK kind of goes "if you can't bend you seriously suck at all aspects of life so here Korra have all your bending back no-effort required" and it's like they forgot about all the cool non-benders in TLA who managed just fine skills they acquired by the last season and then I sigh in disappointment yet again.
...Well, I guess Asami counts as the cool non-bender of LoK but she's the only one who gets any kind of significant screen time. Screen time that was devoted largely to being the monkey wrench in Korra and Mako's romance. :/ _________________

The thing on the losing bending thing I find, is that there's a difference between losing something that's a part of you and then never having it at all. This is especially true with Korra, who has based her identity on being the Avatar since age five. Its hard to tell someone like Bolin tried with the whole "at least you have this!" because it's not the same.
Of course, my problem with how they handled Korra losing her bending was that they didn't give it room to breath. I mean, yes, they knew at the time it was meant for one series and it would be rehash to make Korra relearn the elements. Word of Bryke confirmed that the scene in South Water was a few months later so what would have been good would have been to have the last episode dedicated to after math because then we could get everything: how Republic city is dealing, how's the bender and non-bender conflict doing now that Amon is gone, the full fall out on Korra on how losing her bending for those few months effected her, hell even proper Asami and Mako closure would have been nice.
I think Book 2 might revisit the non-bender/bender conflict since they mentioned having a lot of ideas they had to cut out but wanted to incorporate later but will see. _________________

The fact that they decided to double[?] the length of the second season is probably the best news any of us could have expected.
A lot of people interpret that one cliff scene on the final ep as Korra contemplating suicide. Am I the only one who didn't interpret it so severely? I thought she was just...blue. _________________ http://dice9999.deviantart.com/

Same here. I don't think she would have gone with such extreme lengths. It doesn't really fit with her character. _________________ Icon via iconography. |

I easily digress to the aspects about ruining Korra, Bolin, Mako, and Amon.
Korra's relationship with Mako was done by god terribly to the point I despised both of them, and felt every bit of empathy for poor Asami. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER they act all lovey dovery, and Mako tries to deny it several times, the fact Korra encourages it just makes her all the more disgusting.
By the last episode? When Korra loses everybit of her bending, and Mako grows even worse by telling her he loves her? As he backstabs Asami again. Not only does Korra not give a crap; She states that she doesn't want to be with him because she's not special anymore, and not of high status. Not because she thought he was only with her for that, but that she herself doesn't want to be with him now that she's barely anything of high status.
Come to after the ridiculous exposition of Korra getting her powers back by stupid means of Aang and company of the avatar state; She suddenly loves Mako back, because shes all so special and cool again. Again, unintentionally hitting Asami to the side. They were complete douchebags, and have become some of the most hated and loathed characters i've seen in cartoon history. Not in the sense of villains where I can enjoy the hate for them, because I should. It's the hate that I just despise what they became, and that they received no consequence for it with them supposed to be the good guys.
I entirely agree with his points on how poor Amon fell. The mighty fell hard, and from how well they made me assume he was my favorite cartoon villain i had seen in a very long time? They just deduced his character to drivel. The same to be said for Bolin, but turning antagonist nature of Amon into Comedic relief for Bolin. _________________

I want Bolin to become the big bad evil guy so much
"they laughed at me, dedicated half an episode on how perfect I'd be for Korra, I was made into a buttmonkey..."
"now. now I will reign supreme"
squeak squeak
"yes, yes, cute animal mascot... the streetrats will drown in the avatar's blood"
best season ever _________________

@BlueFuji
You are sooo right - however, I never saw it that extreme. But I still hope, that they will comment on some of these things within the next season.
After all, it seems like Korra does not use her powers very wise (cheating in a race...). |

The only other people they could with are Asami, Iroh, and Bumi. Almost all the others have been either reduced to a laughing stock, are dead, are useless, or are just plain terrible people. _________________

Sounds like Abyss' cast *hides* XD
If we are lucky they will try to "explain" a few things from the last season. |
