just think of it as a "healing fic" for you, abicion. Mint-III will continue on to defeat dhaos and save the world but then because of her passive energy drain aura she exiles herself to the moon to save the world from herself. she sits alone on the moon for eternity, staring at her homeworld, a silent guardian... a watchful protector... a dark cleric

Considering that Chester lost his sister and didn't turn into a bad guy/douche I would say no. Plus Cless already lost his parents and all the people he grew up with. Not that i'm comparing Mint to them but i'd say he's used to the horrid feeling of loss.
Plus Mithos was a Half Elf and lived in a world of racism. He had an entirely different life to Cless.

Yeah, but Cless still has the whole thing with being unfairly villainized thanks to the bad writing in the game's ending.

That's sort of like persecution.

yeah yeah, so cless will get all weepy and angry and emo, and then he will duel chester, who tells him not to give up hope on mint just as he hasn't given up hope, and then klarth and arche will show up from the past with a giant robot so they can fly into space to retrieve mint-iii from the moon. upon seeing her comrades trying so hard to come save her despite what she has become, dhaos stops fighting with her and uses the last of his power to send her into space to be rescued, but she insists that dhaos come along too and live out his life, because londrine is waiting for him. cless (protected by klarth's maxwell summon) and mint-iii then have a touching reunion in space where they hug in zero gravity, and then finally when they reach the surface, mint and chester face off for one final duel with makka na chikai playing in the background.

there, i've topped every fic you have ever written and ever will write. read ye, and despair.

What if Rondoline was the traitor?

Like maybe she could use her horrible retcon powers to help Dhaos and infiltrate Cless's party to get close to Mint, and then promptly shank her to get her out of the way.

Would Cless still have any reservations toward killing all the Derris Kharlanians after that?

If Mint died, Cless, voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch in the anime, would probably go like this, in that voice and hopefully not like that.
