I actually completely agree with Accel's long post, and to add to it, imo all characters added have not taken away from the cast dynamic. I also know that many other fans feel exactly the same. I feel that when a new character is added its just more opportunity for character interaction, showing off more of the other characters traits, one more person to try in battle, and an increase in sidequests for that new person as well. Also, every character added other than the recent Triverse R characters were ones that had been planned for the game anyways and got cut, so it makes me happy that they got to be brought to life! The R characters were kind of what one would call shoehorned in, but I do still feel that they added to character interaction, though I dislike how distant Kongwai is, but that's his character. I am really liking how Galand seems to be taking an active role in the story.
Legendia is my all time favourite Tales game, and one of my all time favourite games, and if they wrecked what it has I would be really sad, but I feel like that would be hard to do. A new character or two might just add to the dynamic and make it even better! It might lose its original feeling, but I think it wouldn't be bad if a new character was introduced and seeing how the cast interacts with them. When Shirley was introduced I love how the characters made it so blatant that she was an oddity to the dynamic, and she actually had to grow closer to them throughout the CQ's. It was all just so wonderfully done. I'm sure any new characters would be handled nicely if the script was rewritten for them, working with the ideas that are already there!
Also yey I'll be playing ToIR at the same time as lots of people~ Mine should be here soon, anxiously waiting >_< _________________

I still don't see the logic behind region locking a console. In my opinion, it's stupid and all it does is promote xenophobia. |
I can see why Japanese game companies would want region locking: Games cost a lot more in Japan than in the US, even with exchange rates [not] accounted for. Even with the cost of importing, it will usually end up costing less to buy the US version; and if it's a simultaneously-released game where the language barrier doesn't matter to the buyer, there would be little incentive to get the Japanese version (see the Persona 4: Arena and Persona 4 anime shenanigans). |
While that's a great point, not all gamers are willing to play a game in a language they don't understand. Even if Japanese games are more expensive than North American games, the difference is not that much. It really depends on the game, but Xillia 2 is the only game I've seen to break $100, not to mention Amazon Japan sells games for a good $30 less. _________________

English is taught in schools in Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if it was sufficient knowledge to enjoy games that aren't text heavy. _________________

Another good point. I was responding more to the idea that Japanese gamers may think to import the North American version of Japanese games. Even still, I'm not sure how the Japanese feel about English. I get mixed impressions. _________________

Unless there's a way to bypass the God awful region lock, no.
Stay region free, Sony. |
