- Double Dragon Neon had some really nice tracks and I enjoyed the 80's vibe, but otherwise the idea of even considering this GOTY is absolutely laughable.

Disappointed.

It had potential, but the gameplay was quite rough around the edges and could have been better refined

One thing I feel obligated to mention, and I already know I'm gonna include it as my honorable mention once I note everything down,

Far Cry 3. Seriously, if you know anybody that has this, ask them if you could give it a shot. It is some wonderful sandbox gaming with extremely smooth controls, and one of the greatest implementations of stealth in gaming (it's nothing deep, but it's so intuitive it's just *fun*.) Surprisingly it's probably the most polished AAA game I've played this year (though I've heard great things about 343's achievements with Halo 4, I still need to play that.) Probably the first game I've played since Crackdown where it feels like there's so much fun stuff to do that it's hard to decide where to go next! (Ideally someplace without Komodo Dragons. I stumbled into a hunting ground of 'em yesterday and fought like 50. Things must breed like crazy on Rook Island.)

My actual GotY will probably end up being Dragon's Dogma, but I'm gonna try and list games by genre.

Dude, you were like the Hype Train Super Express for Xenoblade, complete with backlog theme and constant fanboying over it, even after coming back from the break at Mechonis, and now it's exhausting to play and not worth playing again? Bit of a shift there.

I don't see how there's a shift at all. Besides Mechonis, it's a really enjoyable game. It's just certainly not something I can see myself playing again due to how much fetch questing/grinding I had to do. The appeal of the game for me was exploring the amazing world, I'm not going to get that again. Also the quests were always exhausting, especially the finding blue drops on the field ones which was an issue I had with the game from day 1 and I complained about the game leaving me exhausted(which is why I had to break at Mechonis). I'm not sure what shift you're talking about as I still like the game. I even listed it as a shout out along with my actual picks for GOTY.

On second playthroughs I only really care about the battle system (and sometimes characters/scenes I like if they're really, really good) and Xenoblade doesn't really give me enough in either for me to play through it again. You already know I found some portions of the story extremely boring. I wanted to give the story another chance with my weeaboo voices on to maybe get me invested in the storyline a bit more but it's just too massive of a game and I don't really have enough of an interest to stay committed.

Rayman Origins, Dark Souls or Legend of Grimrock. Probably not the latter, but I really want more games in that vein, so it has my moral support Sad

i am reminded how I have played very little new games this year
hopefully the gaining of a 3DS will fix that eventually

but **** I can't think of much

of the games I got that I think are from this year

Kirby's Return to Dreamland is a definite. Game is amazing.

Tales of Graces is a definite not. Lord is this game bad and do I ever regret purchasing it.

but I guess I would have to give it to Journey.
Journey is just a beautiful experience all around that I played through thrice in quick succession. Definitely GOTY.

I bought a grand total of four games this year and I didn't even start one of them so my only answer is Dragon's Dogma.

Xenoblade without hesitation. Though that should have been LAST year...

It'd be The Last Story for me otherwise because god damn did that game know how to make me smile.

Tales of Graces f comes in at a close 3rd.

And Code of Princess was pretty damn fun, so it gets an honorable mention.

And those are the only games from 2012 that I played worth mentioning really. Everything else worth mentioning was older games.

Surprisingly, Sleeping Dogs... and Mass Effect 3.

But if ZOE HD counts, then it's 2nd Runner all over again.

I think my list is complete actually. I might note a couple extra honorable mentions by genre, but Dragon's Dogma is my pick for the year, with Far Cry 3 getting top honorable mention. **** play that ****.

I made another posted because I do have my Worse Game of the Year 2012. That'd be Prototype 2. They sacrificed the interesting character and story they had already built, turning the guy into an unintelligent villain, and introduced the biggest meathead ever as the new protagonist in an attempt to have a hero that isn't quite as anti-hero (the irony is that he actually does worse things in the game than the original protagonist did; he hunts down somebody and murders them just because they made fun of his wife and your mission contact at the time.)

The best character in the game is Starnes, an NPC that shows up in two missions and makes really awkward jokes. That says a lot about the whole experience really. Minimal mechanic upgrades, removal of some good ones, not really improved controls, the game looks quite a bit better but that's about it.

The Walking Dead. No freaking contest.

Never before has a game made me care about its characters so much.

Devil Survivor 2. I haven't finished it yet, but the game is all kinds of amazing.

- Xenoblade
- Borderlands 2
- Persona 4 Golden
- Pokemon Black/White 2

Persona 4 Golden wins. The perfect first purchase for my Vita, and quite possibly the best JRPG i've played to this point, if not RPG in general right next to Earthbound. It was the best PS2 game I played originaly, but the amount added is much of a treat that it adds even more depth to the characters, and even to some unexpected that made it such a fantastic ride.

Xenoblade made me dust off my Wii, and it was well worth it. Every bit of the massive amount of content, was well worth it. The same to be said for Pkmn, except not as much content, but still a damn good amount of enjoyment.

I do not get what makes Journey so special. At all. The game is circle jerking yourself in the desert.
