|
|
We all seen it coming, the digital age is here and every desire is fulfilled just by straining your eyes through small screens. The newest challenger, Netflix has beaten world video rental champ Blockbuster in a bloodied competition.
Since movie/game rentals can be done online now, there is no need for people to go to video rental stores anymore, hence their collapse. Blockbuster being the worldly video rental store; putting itself up for saleafter filing for bankruptcy,it's fairly safe to say that it's the final nail in the coffin for such a traditional and lasting service from small businesses.
Let's remember the good times of the basic rental service: Going to the rental store to rent a movie or video game every Friday to celebrate the weekend, filling yourself with excitement as you returned home to cherish your temporary entertainment or going to the store and asking out that cute guy/girl you met the week before and renting the same movie together.
I'm sure good times were had, but what will the digital age bring us? _________________

| Yeah... All the Rogers in my area closed down (I got some decent movies out of it, like a cheap Pan's Labyrinth unopened, and Osmosis Jones), but it's not surprising. Considering the quality Blockbuster used to provide when I used to rent stuff, I don't mind the change. |

Well, sure, some are. But they probably won't last all that much longer.
Most of the Blockbusters in my area have closed down. I can think of 2 off the top of my head that have closed (one was huge), and I think the last time I drove past another one it was still open but it's been a little while.. wouldn't be surprised if it closed down real soon. |

I think the only time I went into a Blockbuster was when they had those kiosks that let you print photos from Pokemon Snap. _________________

Yeah, I knew this was happening. The one near my house closed.
But I'm kinda mad. Redbox has crappy selection, and what if I don't want to wait 3 days for a movie via Netflix and it's not on Netflix Instant? No Blockbuster means no impulsive movie rentals. =( _________________

Never heard of an Rogers Videos but it's only a matter of time before it gets closed down.
Around my parts there is two Blockbusters and a Hollywood video. The Hollywood Video was the first to go and good f***ing riddance I say.
There was a time when my Mother couldn't walk, yet she loved to watch movies, giving me the errand of fetching her a movie.
The employees at the Hollywood Video were really rude and lazy. At first I assumed that they were in a sour mood for working long hours or their boss was an douche but no matter what time of day I came in their moods never changed..
That, and other than what my Mom asked for the places video collection and video game collection was lame.
A short while after that I see a SPACE FOR RENT sign plastered on the window.
Around Mid 2010 there was an Blockbuster near my loco Wal-Mart and they shut down around 2 weeks ago.
The other Blockbuster is still open but charging $10 + Tax to rent an video game for 5 days I can guarantee that they'll be down for the count just like the rest.
I do remember being young and going to the rental store with my parents and nagging them about a game I wanted.
Glover was one of my frist video game rentals along with many more PS1 classics as well as Klonoa: Door to Phantomile amd Tomba.
The times when I could've just bought Syphon Filter but continued to rent it over and over again trying to get passed the Catacombs stage.
Ah nostalgia.. whether there painful or foolish memories they still feel good to me... _________________
