@Nero: Alright. That will be fine, but remember that Yukiko has taken the PoD's Padran. Unless of course you are planning on just making another Padran that will work with him.

I know, I'm just making another villian to add to the roster to even up the sides.

Gonna start writing their bio now.

Everyone should take a look at Falunel's post. She explained the magic systems in more detail than in the first post of the thread.

@Falunel or HotFire: Sorry, but is it okay if you can write an example of how they would be used when writing it in the RP? I've read through your post a few times and looked at the wiki, but I'm still not completely sure how they work or form a good image in my head of how to execute them. ^^;;;

Sorry for the delay- my parents decreed that Sunday be a study day and forbid use of the Internet for most of the day.

Garth Nix didn't give a detailed, definite process for casting Charter spells, but here are some examples from his books. For simplicity's sake, I filled in the spots he left blank with my own assumptions, and simplified some things:

In the first book, the character Sabriel casts an attack spell by visualizing three marks, making a throwing motion, and shouting their names. The marks flew from her hand and turned into silver blades as they left her.

In the second book, the character Lirael summons a wind to wipe away her footsteps. She inhales deeply while visualizing the necessary marks in her mind, then exhales while directing the marks into her breath. Her breath turns into a swirling ball of white wind that whips across her path and erases her footsteps.

A few more notes:
-In the Old Kingdom series, Charter marks are depicted as highly geometric, simple-to-draw shapes. They glow gold and move around when drawn upon an object. This isn't the Old Kingdom, though, so make up the marks as you see fit.
-The names Nix used included "anet," "calew," and "ferhan." Again, this isn't the Old Kingdom, so make up the names.
-Things Charter magic can do include: heating water, lighting small fires like campfires, providing light, recording spoken messages, creating magical nets, locking and unlocking doors, inducing sleep, weak combat magics.
-Things Charter magic cannot do include: super powerful, AOE high-damage spells like Indignation, Gravity Well, Thunder Blade- even some mid-level spells like Splash and Freeze Lancer are beyond the capabilities of Charter magic. Those combat spells are the domain of Tales magic.
Charter magic is super powerful in the Old Kingdom, since you could bind powerful beings and conjure semi-sentient creatures with it. But again, this isn't the Old Kingdom. Charter magic can definitely be used in battle, but I'd imagine it as mainly for throwing enemies off-balance and setting them up for an attack.

I hope that helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. ^^

Also, HotFire, would there be any monsters in the world? Could be that the darkness released some nasty creatures...

Ah, all right, I think I can grasp the concept a bit now. Thank you very much. Very Happy

Though, I know this might be random but, what about making charms that can enhance physical/magical abilities or weaponry? Could this fit into the RP and would it have to incorporate some of the Charter Magic to enable the enhancing? (Sorry, I'm in the progress of helping someone make a character for the RP who is planning on joining.)

I'm glad it helped. ^^

Don't be worried about asking questions. :) If you mean actual, physical charms, and not just buffing spells, then yes, it is possible. You would draw or engrave the necessary Charter marks onto an object, which would then give its holder enhanced powers.

According to what a previous RP'er wrote, however, Stellium is the best material at effectively channeling magic. This implies, therefore, that the spell on an object will have to be renewed every so often if the object is not made of Stellium, and the most powerful spells either won't stick or will burn up non-Stellium objects.

Buffing spells are also possible, both in Tales and in Charter magic. However, the more powerful Charter buffs will need master marks. (FYI: there is no problem with making a character be an adept at Charter magic and therefore capable of using master marks- as long as they don't god-mode and break the power restrictions on Charter magic, it's all good. ^^)

Yes, I meant more with the physical charms and not the buffering spells. ^^ We did plan to make the enhanced abilities temporarily though, since I don't think the charms would be made out of the Stellium.

Yes, there are monsters, and yes the darkness (even though it is pretty much inside of the PoD), has affected some monsters, making them more aggressive and whatnot. I'll put that in the Q&A section.
Nice job explaining and giving some situations though!

@Nero. Gotcha. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Are there any objections to starting this up on Wednesday...? And you are going to have to remember that I am leaving for my mom's house Friday night, so I probably will not be back on until Sunday :[

I don't mind it starting Wednesday, though I know I won't be home on that day to get a post up until later in the evening. I also have guests coming over on Friday too, so I don't know how often I'll post Christmas weekend. (I'll probably be dead tired Saturday, since I'm planning with my sis and cousin to pull an all-nighter Christmas Eve to meet Santa......jk, we're just going to play video games and probably have a bonfire outside. Then I have work Sunday. T.T)

Just as long as you avoid General Discussion, you should be fine :]

Looking forward to see your character!

Name: Akilah Beathas

Gender: Female

Age: 25

Race: Elf

Birthplace: Kladir

General Description:Akilah is tall, slender with blond hair and the purest of blue eyes. Her ears are somewhat long and pointed at the ends. Her face is sleek looking and is a very elegant creature. She wears black leggings with a white tanktop and a dark blue jacket. On her feet are boots that go up to her knees and rather sizable heels.

Elements: Earth, Fire, Water, Wind

Weapon: Rapier

Attacks: Will be added later.

Personality: Akilah is cool, calm and rational with her decisions. She is the most intelligent of all of the PoD's generals and is least insane. She is not insane whatsoever and is a rather depressed woman but doesnt let anyone see that she is.

Deep down inside she yearns for someone to defeat the PoD so that she may be free from his clutches but seeing how powerful he is she will never be allowed her freedom.

Brief Personal Details/History: Akilah was born a pure blood elf in the village of Kladir, she lived a happy life with her family and had many friends. When she started school she was the smartest of her class and was praised by many, and over time she was known to be one of the smartest people of all the world.

One day in Kladir when things seemed like a normal day, the Prince of Darkness attacked around when he first came to be known and kidnapped her, and killed her parents but her younger siblings were spared only to be told she would be working with him as his commanders assisstant in ops and if she resisted whatsoever he will kill her siblings in cold blood.

Akilah never wanted to work with the PoD and yearns for the day where he would be defeated so she could free. Her only family left was her younger brother and sister and they lived all alone, and she could not imagine how they felt when they watched their beloved parents die.

Akilahs's purpose is to design battle plans for the armies and be the sensible word for the PoD, commander and rest of the generals when they propose ideas.

Name: Ephyra Kai
Nickname: Ephy
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Aquada
Birthplace: Micla

(Appearance Picture *rough sketch*)
General Description: Like many Aquadas, Ephyra is slender with pale blue-tinted skin that lightens to aquamarine near her hands and feet. She has hip-length, blue-black hair that she usually wears in two braids and bangs that slant toward the left side of her face. She stands around 5’4” tall and has yellow eyes that deepen to gold when she laughs. Her gills are located behind her ears and appear as nothing more than white strips when she is on land.

Ephyra wears a loose navy blue, transparent dress over a form-fitting strapless top and matching short pants. She wears a gold belt around her waist and multiple gold bracelets around her left wrist. When not walking around barefoot, she prefers to wear black sandals. Always noted by her side is a green satchel made from seaweed filled with string, wire, beads, colorful rocks, pearls, metal and other odds and ends she uses to make her crafts.

Elements: Water, Ice

Weapon(s): Ephyra uses a long, silver staff that can be transformed into a trident when a trigger button is pressed. This weapon, however, is obtained later and will become her main weapon as the story progresses. Her specialty lies in using Charter magic mainly in her crafts to enhance the physical abilities of the wearer and/or their weapons.

Attacks: (Will probably add this later, I’m really undecided)

Personality: Ephyra has an optimistic outlook and enjoys spending her time making jewelry, charms, and different baubles as a part of her parent’s trade. She’s a giver and tends to always make little charms (spelled and unspelled) for the children of her village. Having lost a sibling when she was younger, she has learned to cherish her friendships knowing nothing lasts forever. She has a generally friendly attitude and is willing to try to make friends whenever she can. She finds any opportunity available to laugh.

Once leaving her village, she begins to understand that her upbringing left her very naive of the true nature of the world. Because of this, Ephyra develops a childlike curiosity and strives to learn all she can before returning home.

Brief Personal Details/History: Born in Micla to a small family of artisans, Ephyra grew up learning how to use her hands to make various crafts, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and charms. Her mother taught her how to incorporate the Charter symbols into her crafts to help those around her by bringing luck, protection, and even assistance by boosting a person’s physical stamina for labor. Overall, she had a rather unremarkable childhood with two loving parents and a younger sister that stuck to her side like glue. When Ephyra was five, her four-year-old sister came down with a severe fever and passed away. As Ephyra grew older, she held very few memories of her sister but those she did hold were the feelings of sibling companionship as well as a closeness she never quite felt again. One could say that it was because she wanted to recapture that closeness that her friendship with Lydda began.

Ephyra befriended Lydda, the daughter of a famous songstress and storyteller that were family friends and frequent customers, during her early teens. Both, being artistically inclined, became fast friends and were nearly inseparable in those early years. However, as time moved on and their career choices led them down different paths they interacted less but never loss their close friendship. News of Lydda’s disappearance was slow in reaching Ephyra, but once she heard, she decided to venture out of Micla to bring Lydda home—her mind set on not losing another sister again.

Upon leaving Micla, Ephyra was shocked to find just how vast the land actually was and just how little she knew of the world—and how little it knew of her kind. For a long while she received nothing but strange looks and muted whisperings, but eventually she thought she had a lead when a man approached her with information to Lydda’s whereabouts…for a price. Giving him what little funds she had left from chasing other dead ends (and times when she was just plain lost), she realized too late that he had conned her. With nothing left in her pocket, she began selling some of her spelled crafts for food and other necessities. Her big break came when a poster caught her eye, one advertising a rising star, “The Azure Songstress.” It was Lydda. Now with a location in mind, Ephyra made her way into Ralam—the Capital City.

And here are my second and third characters, my Padran and Dragon. Lemme' know of any errors you come across this time around, I proof-read but may have missed something again.

---------------

Name: Vomica
Nickname: The Bloody Siren
Gender: Female
Age: 36
Race: Padran
Birthplace: Andrir

General Description: Vomica possesses navy blue hair in a mid-length style with two long bangs down the side of her face that reach just past her chest. Her slit-like eyes are a crimson red colour and her pupils are similar to that of a snakes. While she is well in to her thirties in age, her body has the appearance of a teenager due to the slow ageing process of the Padran's. Her skin is very pale in colour, almost a sickly white. Her total height comes to 5'7.

Her outfit is very basic yet somewhat striking. Her top, similar to a corset and dark purple in colour, only comes up to just above her chest and exposes her back, however it 'spikes' out in three different directions on the front. The top comes down past her thighs and acts as a sort of makeshift skirt, and the top part is slit down the middle to just above the waist revealing the torso and part of the chest area. Under this she wears a black, transparent top that covers the back and torso that the initial top fails to hide. She wears long black leggings that reach up past her knees and and black, heeled leather boots that cover up just past her ankles. She also wears elbow length dark purple leather gloves and two black belts around her waist to help complete her outfit.

Elements: Ice

Weapon(s): Vomica's weapon is very similar to a halberd. The silver pole reaches a total of six feet in length and is spiked at either end. The golden blade represents a sort of crescent axe shape, the base starting very close to the top and the one-sided blade extending down the blade by nearly two feet, so not only does it act as a guard for the wielder but allows the weapon to be wielded like a sword if the possessor has the efficient strength. The pole part of the weapon has a number of black, intricate patterns that are in the form of kanji spelling; “Sickness”, “Misery” and “Death” when translated.

Attacks: Revealed throughout the RP.

Personality: Vomica is sadistic, cynical and cruel. The pain and anguish of others greatly amuse her to the point of laughing, a hollow gentle chuckle that makes people's hair stand on end. She enjoys invoking helplessness into her prey and loves nothing more than crushing their every single hope right down to the last fleck of light. Determined people simply annoy her, and it makes her just the all more inclined to reduce them to the point of tears any way she can.

She has a disgusting fetish for the human form of her dragon, Letum, ever since he hatched and such shows a disturbingly affectionate and entranced nature around him. She takes failure very seriously to heart and will bear a grudge for lifetimes to come, even if it means getting revenge on the kin of the original target of hate.

Brief Personal Details/History: Born in the Padran home of Andrir, Vomica was born with a weak and sickly body. Training like the many other Padran's did made her bedridden for days on end, and as such no dragon eggs would choose her due to her frail body and lacking in combat training. The fellow Padrans who taunted her added to her hate and spite for the life and body that she had, the negativity in her heart growing more and more savage with each passing day. One day it all became too much for her, and into the eye of one of her tormentors she stabbed a foot long blade straight through their skull.

This blatant act of murder saw fit that she would be exiled from the haven for Padrans to prevent any further casualties, and released to the world below where she could simply disappear from existence. Vomica's already tested rage was dripping from her very soul, and she was not about to let the tormentors get the better of her. She broke out of the cell they were restraining her in the night before she was going to be sent down to the lower world and began planning to go around to every single one of her tormentors and silence them before she never got the chance again.

However, on the way to require a weapon she heard a voice. A dark, irresistible voice that made her body feel warm and excited. She was led to a large, dark dragon egg that was kept locked away from the others and was deemed 'tainted' by the members of the Padrans. The corrupted dragon in the egg has sensed Vomica' twisted passion and was calling out to her to awake him from his long slumber. The second Vomica lay a hand on the egg a mighty great black dragon emerged from the egg, channelled and matured from the negative energy within Vomica's damaged heart. Without a moments hesitation Vomica climbed onto her new partner's back, and felt the rush and excitement of finally owning a dragon.

Letum, the black that had emerged at last from the tainted egg, smashed down buildings clumisly with its newly-hatched body in its path and snatched the Padran youths that had tormented Vomica so from their comfy beds. They begged Vomica to show mercy, but she was too busy screaming with joy as her dragon ripped apart the youth's frail human-like bodies in its gigantic maw and feasted upon their bloody innards. The elite Padran warriors were quickly dispatched to try and combat Vomica, and in their light both Vomica and Letum fled the scene. Letum's raw power was already coating itself around Vomica, greatly increasing her physical abilities and turning her sad and crushed heart into a malicious one covered in black flames.

Twenty-four years passed since that fateful night in Andrir and it has had time to lick its wounds and clear its mind of the viscous black dragon and its deranged young rider, but during this time Vomica and Letum had already gained more power to rival any elite warrior Andrir could possibly produce now. How they were both found and taken in as a General for the Prince of Darkness remains a mystery, but Vomica has been looking forward to the day that she and Letum get to cause beautiful chaos to all life on Talaria.

Dragon bio

Name: Letum
Nickname: The Taint.
Gender: Male
Age: Has lived for many centuries, but has spent only 24 years outside of his egg.
Race: Dragon
Birthplace: Andrir

General Description:
Letum's dragon form is a horror to behold. On his hind legs he now reaches a staggering height of roughly thirty feet and his total wingspan reaches nearly double his height, enabling to effectively block out the sun from all those who stand in his presence. His wings are also the only part of his dragon form to differ in colour, black at the top but grow progressively redder down to their tips. His whole body save his underbelly (which is a deep shade of grey) is covered in scales as black as the night sky, and his eyes are sickly yellow colour with black slits.

He has spikes producing from all around the outside of his reptilian head in a 'mane' sort of fashion that reach well over two feet in length and his very fangs and talons extend to well over a feet feet a piece, all of which so sharp that merely touching one could cause a terrible wound. The tip of his tail is also an abundance of spikes too, making an effective extra weapon when needed.

In his human form Letum is surprisingly handsome and toned. He stands a good 6'2 in height and has long black hair that reaches down past his shoulders and is curly at the ends. His skin colour is somewhat pale but nowhere near the same as Vomica's and he retains his claws albeit a mere shadow of their real size. While he dislikes human clothes he wears a pair of brown slacks, black boots and a white vest for the sake of covering up his more fleshy body. His eyes are still the same shade of sickly yellow, and in this form he can still draw his wings from his back at a much smaller size from his full form.

Elements: Darkness/Raw Negativity.

Weapon(s):
Letum uses his claws, teeth, spikes, wings and his destructive breath to cause serious harm to all those who stand in his way while he is in his monstrous dragon form. While his co-ordination is poor while he is fighting by himself, teamed up with Vomica he becomes a lot more organised and focused than the chaotic thrashing around he can normally produce.

Letum rarely fights in his human form, but still has the capability of breathing his black fire from his maw and can increase the length of his claws to fight with them if neccesary. He greatly dislikes any form of man-made weaponry and will always refuse to use them, believing that it would cost him his pride as a Dragon to even touch one.

Attacks:
Letum's very howls cause anyone to hear them to loose their minds, the negative energy flowing through the sound waves destroying everyone's senses save for the most strongest of foes. His black flames he issues from his gaping mouth are already immensely powerful, as it is cursed fire that cannot be put out by the means of water but rather the magic that opposes darkness at every turn, Light. However, if Vomica is riding him he can channel the negative energy within her heart to shoot a white, thunderous beam of pure hate-filled energy that vaporises most things it comes into contact with, although leaving both Vomica and Letum horribly drained in the process and therefore is rarely used.

Personality: Letum is comparable to Vomica in many ways. He has a cruel and corrupted heart and enjoys causing suffering to people's lives. He doesn't waste much time on words, and prefers to kill now and not bother to ask questions later. He is unquestionably loyal to Vomica as she was the one who released him from his long and torturous slumber, however he finds her advances towards him unappealing as he greatly dislikes the weak, fleshy form all human-like creatures reside in.

Unlike his partner he is not worried about personal vengeance, he only cares for the increased growth of his own power and being able to topple any opponent that comes before him.

Brief Personal Details/History: The moment he was born as an egg every dragon could feel the darkness that swirled and spiralled within its dormant shell, and as such had a powerful seal placed upon it that would doom Letum to spending his long and corrupt life within the very egg. He stayed there for many hundreds of years, curled up and waiting for the day when he would finally be able to crack the boundaries of the seal that retained him.

One day he felt the presence of one who had a similar heart to his own, filled with hate and taint. It was growing stronger each day, and he started to grow excited to see the down-trodden heart mature into something marvellously chaotic and spiteful. He stirred in his egg, trying to get his mouth to cry out to this heart to come and release him from this long and agonising slumber. Then the day came where the power of the heart seeped to him, just a slither of negative energy reached his near ancient body within the egg and gave him strength. He managed to issue a single whisper from his mouth, and he could feel the heart now drawing closer to his own.

Upon making contact with the egg, Letum bonded the corrupt heart to his own at once, and he was able to finally undergo the powerful and held-back growth that was being stimulated by the heart's connection at last. He found the heart belonged to the Padran girl Vomica, and he allowed her to climb upon his back and share his power. In an instant he was able to see all the suffering Vomica had come across in her life, and saw the two of them were strangely alike. He went about returning the favour he owed to this Padran by seeking out her tormentors and swallowing them in his huge maw.

His body was still newly developed and unstable after just hatching, and such saw it fit to escape the scene when the more elite Padran warriors came onto the scene. Shakily spreading his giant wingspan, Letum escaped with Vomica into the night. Despite not fond of being a partner to someone after all these years, he owed a great debt to this girl who was giving him the strength he needed to grow and mature and saw it fit that he see out the rest of her life with him by her side. The twenty-four year gap between when Vomica and Letum left Andrir in a state of chaos and to the present day where they are ranking generals in the Creed of Darkness' force is currently unknown to many across Talaria, but they are both many times more powerful than when they first met eachother and continue to grow more so the longer they spend together.

---------------

Urgh, sorry for the vast length the two now present.
