<Zanark: North Sector>

Fukiya led the squad of five in from the northernmost reaches of the city, covering the city from the high route. She set up on a rooftop, dropping down to one knee and aiming through the scope, closing one eye as she used her telescopic sight to view the surroundings. As the two rearmost soldiers caught up, to the rest of the group, their conversation began to reach Fukiya's ears.

"Why are we still talking about this? You know that you don't apply to join Major Rovina's branch, she chooses you."

"No! No! I'm not saying I want to join her special forces group, all I'm saying is she's really nice looking, but something tells me she's actually a royal bi-"

"Tracer! Hollowpoint!"

The two soldiers furthest at the back of the group snapped to attention.

"Ma'am!"

Fukiya sighed, placing her hand on her forehead.

"Come on guys, you're lucky you weren't court martialed for that little stunt in the officer's latrines, could you at least take this mission seriously? This is your last chance to show the brass it would be a waste to make you guys stay at home and scrub dishes all day."

"Ma'am, I would like to reiterate that I had nothing to do with the firecracker that Private Tracer..."

"Shh! I see something! Everyone get down!"

Immediately, all of the soldiers dropped low to avoid being seen. Fukiya had spotted a strange, armored man, walking from rooftop to rooftop, not headed towards them at the moment, but she could clearly see he was armed. Her finger began to brush against the trigger, as she waited, knowing that if she fired a shot, they would have to fight, but if she didn't there was a chance the man would simply walk away.

"Guys... hold your fire..."

<Zanark: South Sector>

Maxim and his men took a less subtle approach from the south, simply walking in at street level and making no attempt to hide their presence.

"Wadcutter! Magnum! You two take the southeast! Everyone else! We're going west!"

The soldiers split into two smaller teams, a pair going off on their own to the southeast, with Maxim and the other two to the southwest. Both teams took a very blunt approach, showing pictures of Raiku to the populace and taking direction from them.

Zanark: Upper Plate

"Okay, here's the upper plate, now to investigate." Crest finally arrived at the upper plate of Zanark City, which was drastically different from the middle plate and more importantly, the slums.

"Hmph, with all that money they have, they could have put it into better use than burning it on materalistic stuff." Crest said bitterly looking at the houses.

He never liked coming here, he came mostly because the rich houses usually had objects that sold for big money and he was a thief after all. But it still got on his nerves that the people here spent more time using all that money on cold lifeless objects than use it for good things.

Like helping the people of the Slums, who were struggling to live as it was.

Crest shook his head after that, since now was not the time for that.

'He...lp...me..' The voice came back but this time it was more clearer and it came from the direction of the castle. "No way, so it really was the castle...Okay, time for the Midnight Thief to put those skills into use." Crest stretched before heading to an pipe of one of the houses and climbed up to the roof.

Once on the roof, he jumped along the rooftops with the ease of a Genji, the only serious jump he had to work on was the one jumping from the end of the roof of the last wealthy mansion over on to the ramparts of the castle.

Crest went back a little to give him some space before running as fast as he could to the edge and jumping as far as he could. Luckily, he made it to the rampart, but it was still a close call.

"Whew...at least the worst part is over, now comes the sneaking." Crest sighed in relief. He ran as steathly as down the ramparts then sneaked past any of the Zanark Castle's royal guards. With loads of luck and a little improvising from the Midnight Thief himself, he managed to sneak into the castle.

<Zanark City: Rooftops>

Another voice sounded again, and it was far stronger, enough so that Fractal was able to pinpoint the direction it came from. He leapt up, beginning to float, and allowing him to ascend. He directed himself towards the castle walls, looking down at the guards from above. He could see someone else from his high vantage point over the castle, someone who apparently also had heard the same voice as him. He could see a guard up ahead was about to round a corner on his patrol, and would, in essence, discover the man sneaking into the castle. Without waiting, Fractal dropped, descending right on top of the guard in question, wrapping his arms around the guard's mouth and body, and beginning to fly straight up again, taking himself and the guard skywards.

"Remain calm, I am not your enemy."

The guard was beginning to panic, he was very high off the ground, supported only by the odd, gravity-defying elf who held him captive. He refused to stop struggling, and at risk of dropping him, Fractal was forced to knock the guard out with a well-placed, telepathic strike aimed directly at his consciousness. The guard fell limp in his arms, immediately beginning to snore.

Fractal looked over the sleeping guard back down at the man, who now successfully made it inside. Relaxing, Fractal set the guard down on the limb of a nearby tree, before quietly following the man, observing him from a distance by following the neural signal that all living things seemed to constantly admit while they were alive.

<Zanark City: Southern Sector>

"Maxim! Sir!"

Maxim snapped his head to the side, seeing one of the soldiers waving for his attention.

"We've got the location, apparently this Raiku guy lives in an abandoned estate a few blocks up ahead!"

"Good work! Let's go check the lead!"

Maxim directed the two men with him to follow, leading them both towards the front of an old, ruined mansion. The two men with him immediately pressed themselves against opposite sides of the door.

"Lay low... let's not bust any doors until we know he's here."

Maxim crept along the side of the mansion, raising his head up and looking into the glass.

Ruined Mansion

In the midst of cleaning the table with the help of some of the children, Raiku brought his head up as if he had sensed something, and the aura it brought sounded danger to his senses.

"Kids, stay here. Do not move from this spot." Raiku told the children who were still in the dining room before he left to check, while avoiding being spotted, he noticed that there were soliders from the Gewehr army, however, much to his shock and panic, Lola who seemed to have noticed the people outside and innocently obvlious to who they really were was opening the door.

"Lola! No! Those people aren't friendly!" Raiku shouted and sheilded the young girl when she had opened the door, he turned around to face the soliders. "What are members of Gewehr doing in this neck of the woods? The Slums have nothing of intrest to you." Raiku asked.

Lola had hidden behind Raiku, relaizing just how frightening they actually were with their armour and guns. "Who are they...? They're scary..." Lola shivered.

Zanark Castle

Crest sneaked through the hallways, making sure not to be detected, considering the person he keeps hearing was in trouble, he guessed that the person must be in the dungeons, and that was where he was heading right now.

After some looking and even more sneaking, he found the stone staircase that led downwards, which must be the location of the dungeons in this castle.

He looked to one side to the desk with the prison guard, sleeping on the job with the keys just laying there waiting to be taken.

He quietly sneaked over to the desk and gently and slowly got the keys and made sure not to awake the guard.

Once the key was in possession, he went down the stairs that led to the many dungeon cells.

"Wow, so this is where all those who comitted crimes come to when captured. Good thing I never got captured." Crest commented. He walked along the cells until he came to a mysterious looking person in one of the cells who...well...looked like shouldn't be here at all.

"Hey...Can you hear me?" Crest called out, hoping to get the cloaked person's attention.

The cloaked person seemed to heard this and their head snapped upwards immediately.

"...Who...are you?" A young female voice called out from the hood that covered her head in darkness, especially in this dim light.

"You're a girl?!" Crest blinked for moment before gaining his composure. "I should have figured, it sounded like a girl voice when I started hearing voices in my head." Crest sighed.

"...?! Did you...hear my plea?" The girl asked.

"Ah...yeah? I take it you were the one who was buzzing in my head, right?" Crest answered with a question of his own.

"I'm so happy! Someone heard me! I was beginning to lose hope after using telepathy for the last day and half." The girl sounded joyful and stood up.

"Damn, you've been in that postion for a day and half? That sounds tiring." Crest cringed, that sounded painful to have been sitting in that postion and using something called 'Telepathy' over and over again for a whole day.

"Can you please help me? I've been falsely accused of attempting to steal a relic of the Zanark Royal Family treasury. All I did was request the king to hand over the relic in order to prevent a terrible tragedy from occuring. I never wanted to steal it." The girl explained.

"Ah, so that's what happened, huh? I guess I can help out, I mean after all, I might as well after coming all this way to find out where the voice was coming from." Crest shurgged. He placed the key into the cell door and unlocked it, allowing it open and allow the girl access to freedom.

The cloaked girl exited the cell and turned to her savior. "Thank you so much for helping me. I'm so grateful. Allow me to introduce myself," She bowed in respect before pulling down the hood to reveal her true face.

"...!! You're an Elf! What's an Elf doing in a prison?" Crest took a step back in shock, he didn't know the girl was an native Elf from one of the most remote and isolated countries in Elyansia.

"Are you surprised? My name is Farune Glendall, but it is easier to call me Faru. I am the crowned Princess of the Elves." Faru introduced herself politely.

"A Elven Princess? Wow, the royal family of Zanark is REALLY losing their regal touch if they're throwing foreign royalties into jail." Crest whistled.

"I do not remember the king of Zanark being like that though when I last visited him, he was a very noble man who only wanted what's best for his people. Something must have bewitched his mind and caused him to think I was a thief." Faru shook her head.

"Hmm...Now that I think about it, the rumors about a upcoming war could be related to what's happening to the king. If what you say is true, then what could cause such a change in a short amount of time?" Crest asked.

"I beleive that this is the work of the Loire Ragnarok Tear, one of the ten that was given by the Goddess to protect them from evil hands." Faru looked determined.

"Ah...Ragnarok...Tears? Well, anyway, I've saved you now so now I can leave, right?" Crest tilited his head but decided to ignore it, after all, it wasn't his problem.

"Wait! I have a feeling that out of all the people who could have heard my plea, you were the only one who acted upon it. You must have been brought here by fate to help." Faru added.

"I don't beleive in fate though, Princess. Besides, it's not like your defense-less." Crest shook his head and pointed to her staff.

"There is only so little I can do by myself and I relaize now I cannot do this just by myself. Won't you help me at least until we get the Tear and escape this castle? After that, I promise, you won't have to help me again." Faru made a deal with him after explaining her reasons for her request for his aid.

"...Well...Alright, I'll help you a little while longer, after that though, we go seperate ways, deal?" Crest sighed in defeat.

"Agreed." Faru smiled. "Thank you so much....uh, what is your name, if I am allowed to ask?" Faru thanked but relaized that she didn't even know the name of the person before her.

"Oh yeah, kinda forget to introduce myself. I'm Crest Faile, the Midnight Thief of Loire, at your service." Crest winked.

"...Nice to meet you, Mr. Faile." Faru bowed again in respect.

"Ah...you can call me just Crest, you know. Being called 'Mr' makes me sound old." Crest commented.

"Oh...alright then. So then, shall we leave this place and look for the location of where the Loire Ragnarok Tear could be hidden, Crest?" Faru asked.

"Sure, let's rock." Crest nodded and they both exited the dungeon floor while making sure not to get spotted by anyone.

~Zanark City *The Slums*~

While walking around the slums, the Elderly man notices suspicious figures in front of the Ruined Mansion he dropped off the drunk man over a few hours ago. He stopped and hid himself from a distance to spy on the soldiers in suspicious uniforms.

"Oh no. There are children in there... Those boys are running a great place for them, I can't let these soldiers tear it down!"

Raiku presented himself by the door shielding a little girl. All of a sudden the elderly man had a cold feeling struck him in the chest. He senses something dangerous about to happen. Out of impulse, the Elderly man sprints across the street and grabs Raiku and the girl.

" Get inside! Run!" - Elderly Man

He pulls them in and closes the door, and attempts to lock it.

" I know you don't know me, but I came by earlier and dropped off a guy in need. I realized what a great place you guys are running and doing for these children, and I can't let these guys hurt any one of you. I have a strong feeling those soldiers are going to tear this place apart. You gather up all the kids and anyone in the building, and leave out the back. I'll hold them off!" - Elderly Man

~Zanark City *Middle Plate*~

Daisuke and Etsuko are shopping in a nearby weaponry and item shop. Daisuke is about to pay for the items he just recently bought, and put down the paper of Eiichi on the counter of the cashier.

"Oh are you looking for this guy?" - Cashier

"Yeah, he's my father. My friend is trying to find him and I'm helping her out. So far we've had no luck. This city is huge..." - Daisuke

"He bought some items a while ago and he said he was going to go back to the inn in the lower plate. I remember him because he was incredibly nice to us by giving us extra change." - Cashier

"Oh wow. How lucky, thanks a lot." - Daisuke

He pays the amount for the items he just purchased and put it in his backpack. He left and grabbed Etsuko and told her that his old man was in the lower plate. They started walking lower into the slums of Zanark City.

.:Zanark City, a street near the square:.

The person who made the first move was Kuro. He whipped out a couple of shurikens and threw them directly at the figure. As soon as he did, both of them, Kuro and the figure, jumped into the air at the same time and clashed, Kuro’s short-sword that he took out at a very fast pace and the figure’s axe. Hanaiko sighed and ran forwards to catch the figure as he came down. When the figure finally came down, with a cut from Kuro’s blast, Hanaiko slashed at the wounded figure on the floor. To his amazement the figure very quickly defended himself with his axe and regained his smile.

“Damn you.” Hanaiko grunted, being overwhelmed by the strength of this person.

Kuro started to run towards Hanaiko, to try and save him but as he approached him, Hanaiko shouted.

“I’m ok.” Hanaiko reassured Kuro. After he said that, he managed to break away from the lock of weapons and regain his stance.

The figure stood up, his hood had fallen down and revealed a face. Kuro first looked up at the face and saw that the figure had red eyes and a bald head, apart from that the face was very messed up and disfigured.

”I recognised him!” Hanaiko thought to himself.

(OOC= Bit of a short one, but ah well.)

<Zanark City: Castle>

When they began to backtrack, coming the way Crest entered, they would have come across a pair of unconscious guards in one of the rooms Crest had to pass through to find Faru. Both guards were unconscious, dazing as if they had merely fallen asleep beside one another, their spears stacked in a neat pile against a corner of the room. At about this time, another guard entered, seeing the unconscious men, and Crest standing in front of their former prisoner. He opened his mouth to shout out and raise an alarm, but an armored elf dropped from the ceiling, defying gravity and floating upside down; he wrapped one hand around the guard's neck, placing the other on his forehead to secure it. A light, electrical shock seemed to leap from his hands into the head of the man, quickly and quietly knocking him out. The elf then righted himself, moving the sleeping soldier over and laying him neatly beside the other two.

When Fractal noticed that he had been seen, he seemed to stare at them, the glowing eye markings on the band of metal covering his real eyes seemingly piercing through Crest and Faru, analyzing them, estimating their abilities based on their bodies. His gaze seemed to focus mostly on Faru, analyzing the abilities of her mind, and eventually coming to the conclusion she was the source of the psychic signal. A moment passed, before the elf wordlessly righted himself, allowing his feet to finally touch the ground, he spoke with a cold, efficient demeanor, his monotone voice carrying with it a sense of machine-like efficiency.

"Please continue your escape, I will eliminate any threats the guards ahead possess to your departure."

Fractal began to levitate again, flowing backwards into the hallway ahead before again vanishing from sight.

<Ruined Mansion>

Maxim could see Raiku inside approaching the door, and recognizing him, barked out a command.

"It's him! Breach the door!"

Maxim immediately fell back, standing in the middle of the street in front of the mansion and attaching a flare to the muzzle of his rifle. When he pulled teh trigger, a loud 'ploomph' sounded, and the flare rocketed skywards, bursting into a large, very visible red fizzle, able to be seen for kilometers around. The rest of the soldiers throughout the city immediately moved in reaction to the signal, coming to where the red flare was launched from.

Maxim immediately returned to the door, when it was slammed shut and locked on him, he grabbed his pistol, which was loaded with live rounds, and simply shot the lock, breaking it and allowing himself and the other two soldiers to easily barge inside.

"Raiku! You are under arrest as an enemy combatant!"

The other two soldiers lowered their rifles, both loaded with the special, rubber bullets, while Maxim cocked his pistol, setting it away in its holster.

"Come peacefully, and we will treat you accordingly, resist, and you will be given the same treatment as any other breaker of the law."

Zanark City: Castle

The entire encounter with the strange magi-tech looking Elf took both Crest and Faru by surprise after a few minutes, they finally managed to speak.

"What the hell just happen?" Crest asked.

"I...am not quite sure. Did he not come with you?" Faru asked.

"No way, I never even seen him before, why was he here? Bah, anyway, do you have any idea where this tear could be? I mean, it's obviously in a place that's very secured."

"Hmm, the Ragnarok Tears are extremely dangerous to be seen or kept in public view, perhaps it's in one of the turrents." Faru answered.

"Then that's our next location. C'mon." Crest nodded and they went down towards the inner parts of the castle to find a staircase that went up to one of the many turrents. They just needed to find the right one...

Ruined Mansion

"Come peacefully, and we will treat you accordingly, resist, and you will be given the same treatment as any other breaker of the law."

"Hmph, I know you. You're Maxim Cordite, the 'grand' so called leader of Gewehr. I feel honoured that you would come over here just to capture little ol' me." Raiku replied sarcasticly.

"Answer me this, Maxim, you know that I have not done anything, yet you want to arrest me. If it's information about a certain item, I'm afraid you came all this way for nothing, because I ain't telling ya anything." Raiku scoffed.

"However, I have a better idea. I know you Maxim, you were the one responsible for the 'Cluvern Massercre', where you slaughtered all those innocent people, even children. So, here's my deal, if you promise me that you will not harm these children or this elderly man; then I will come with you peacefully. Although don't expect me to tell you a thing, because my lips are sealed." Raiku answered.

"Please don't take Raiku away! He means everything to us!" Lola begged Maxim, teary-eyed in fear of all the guns and the man before her.

Maxim was a bit surprised he was recognized, and in response, clicked the latches securing his helmet in place. He removed the piece of headgear, dropping it on the floor. When the Cluvern massacre was mentioned, he only narrowed his eyes, not saying a thing, letting him finish his little speech. He ignored the cries of the young girl nearby, waiting for Raiku to fall silentm before picking his rifle up, calmly walking to Raiku, and slamming the butt of the gun hard into where his neck met his shoulder to drop him to the ground. Giving Raiku a moment to recover, Maxim spoke.

"The people of Cluvern were never massacred. If you read the official report submitted to the nations of the world concerning my attack... you would find they were resisting the technological development of Gewehr, and of the world as a whole. The minerals underneath their town were invaluable in the development of all sciences, and yet, their people so selfishly refused to allow us to even approach their city..."

Maxim sneered, knowing full well the minerals in question were just a good excuse for him to level Cluvern to the ground. He knew well beforehand they would refuse his 'peaceful negotiations', and he knew that Zanark's officials would desire the military power he promised them if he was allowed to take the minerals by force; Maxim knew what he did was nothing more than a government-sanctioned extermination. He waved his hand to gesture to the other soldiers, and they both immediately entered a shooting stance, aiming their weapons at the old man, the only other one they felt might be a threat.

"Cluvern was populated entirely with enemy combatants, it isn't against the laws of war to kill an enemy. No crime was ever committed, only a victory. You too are officially an enemy combatant, Raiku, I have the right and consent of Loire's governing body, to put a bullet between your eyes anytime I wish. I strongly suggest you choose your words more wisely in the future... after all, it would be a shame to put all these people out on the street without you to take care of them..."

After Maxim finished speaking, the other soldiers readied themselves to fire.

"Nobody move, or we will shoot... Maxim, you need the cuffs?"

One of the soldiers briefly lowered his rifle, reaching to his hip and pulling out a metal cable, throwing it to Maxim. He caught it, and bent over to secure Raiku's hands together. It was also about this time the other soldiers began to arrive. Fukiya was last through the door, wiping her brow.

"Maxim, you got it in here?"

"Everything's under control, nice and clean."

~Zanark City *Ruined Mansion*~

The elderly man saw Maxim abounto cuff Raiku with the metal cords. Once Maxim kneeled down he pulled out a staff and castes a wind spell to make an attempt to blow away Maxim away from Raiku. He the. pushed Raiku to give him ahead start to escape.

"Raiku run! Now!!" - Elderly Man

"I won't let you hurt these nice people!" - Elderly Man

Zanark City, Church

Symon had finished his duties in the church, however the sense of dread from earlier did not leave him and now he wonders if he was getting paranoid.

"Symon, what's wrong? You look sick."

Symon turned around and his gaze met with an elder woman with a kind smile. "Mother... No, I'm fine."

Laura Sainte smiled but still had a worried look on her face, "Are you sure? maybe you should head home and lie down."

Symon shook his head, "It's alright, mother. I..err... have to be somewhere."

Laura sighed, "Same as always. I wish you would tell me where this 'somewhere' is. I am your mother, you know. But still, if you have to go, be sure to stay safe."

Symon smiled, "I will, mother. See you back at home." Waving his mother goodbye, Symon left the church and made his back to the slums.

A little while later...

Making his way to the mansion, Symon walked as fast as he could. He couldn't explain why, but he hoped the dread haunting him had nothing to do with Raiku. Along the way, Symon overheard people talking, something about the Zanark military being in the slums. Symon immediately felt something pulling his gut, "Oh no..."

Upon reaching the entrance, Symon's worst fears were confirmed. "Raiku...!"

<Zanark City: Ruined Mansion>

The instant Maxim was pushed back, the sound of gunfire began to echo through the mansion, non-lethal rubber bullets sailing through the air and peppering the man's chest. The soldiers also opened fire on Symon, rubber bullets zipping by, aimed for his body. Although in theory, completely non-lethal, capable at most of a very stinging bruise; the rubber bullets did not judge the young from the old, and were still powerful enough to break the bones of an older, more frail man.

"Maxim!"

Fukiya dropped down to pull Maxim back behind the firing line, but he immediately stood back up, pulling his hand back to signal the cease fire. The rifles remained at level, ready to fire again at the drop of a hat.

"Now! Raiku, I suggest you surrender immediately, you've done enough damage!"

Maxim advanced again, this time taking a more brisk walk and roughly forcing Raiku's hands behind his back to try and tie the cables around his wrist.

Ruined Mansion

Symon had no idea what happened. He had merely called out Raiku's name and the soldiers present there had opened fire on him, causing him to fall to the ground. Although not seriously injured, the rubber bullets had inflicted great pain on Symon's body. Symon had recognized the uniforms, they were Zanark military. Symon had attended a military ceremony once and was familiar with them.

Wincing from the pain, Symon tried to stand up. Despite the fact that his hood had fallen off, he could care less about hiding his appearance. Even more so since the military had assaulted an old man. Glaring at the man who is trying to tie Raiku up, Symon shouted, "I am Father Symon Sainte! Who the hell are you, and why are you here?!"

~Zanark City *The Slums*~

The flare has been shot above the city, where Etsuko and Daisuke had clearly seen it.

"Oooh! Fireworks! Come on let's go check it out!" - Etsuko

Etsuko grabs Daisuke and starts dragging him where the flare has been shot.

"HEY HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING! THIS IS NO TIME FOR FIREWORKS!" - Daisuke

~Zanark City *Ruined Mansion*~

Etsuko drags him in the middle of the ruined mansion where there were a crowd of people hidden inside. As they walked through they peered through the window of the mansion, the elderly man has been shot through the chest. Having him fall down to the ground, blood leaking everywhere. At that momeny, Daisuke's eyes had widened.

"EIICHI!" - Daisuke

Daisuke jumps through the window leaving Etsuko outside and passing by Maxim and Fukiya and kneeling down next to his father.

"Dad! Dad what happened?!" - Daisuke

The elderly man looked up and can barely see through the blur, but finally sees his son through his own eyes.

"Daisuke...? You're in Zanark City? You looking for your blood parents again?" - Eiichi

Daisuke begins to sob and holding Eiichi in his arms, his adoptive father.

"Daisuke, I tried to save these kind people, from these soldiers... I believe they are after those tears I told you about, before... Listen Daisuke, those tears are drenched with dreadful power... Don't let anyone use them..." - Eiichi

"Shut up dad! The more you talk the more you-" Daisuke

Eiichi interrupts him midway through his sentence.

"Daisuke... I know you aren't my real son, but I always loved you like one... Believe in yourself, and always have trust in your power.... You are gifted... I love..." - Eiichi

Eiichi's voice starts to fade and disappears. His pupils faded to white and his head fell back into Daisuke's arms. Daisuke hugs the corpse of his adoptive father and begins to cry. After a while, he looks up at Maxim with rage in his eyes. He let's go of the corpse of Eiichi and two swords have been summoned to his hands, and starts to charge blindly at Maxim, screaming in rage.

<Kia Englehart ~ Ruined Mansion>

Kia walked halfway into their guest’s room and paused, observing the older man from afar. He didn’t like the idea of having this man in his home, but then, he couldn’t just leave him out in the streets of the slums either. When he was about to step closer to the unconscious man, a sudden racket outside caused him to jump and his heart nearly skipped a beat. Knowing fully what the sound was, he immediately bolted out the room and down the hallways to the dining room. Damn, I hope the children are all right! Kia thought and his hand caught the edge of the doorframe of the dining room. The children were huddled together and hiding underneath the table. Tears flowed freely from their eyes and their whimpering cries increased when they saw Kia at the entrance.

“Kia, I’m scared!” they cried and tried to crawl out of their hiding places, “Where’s Raiku? Is he okay?”

“Stay where you guys are!” Kia said firmly and the children froze, remaining in their hiding places in the room, “I’ll go find Raiku, just stay where you are!”

After that, Kia rushed back to the main hall where the entrance to the mansion was. Several shots rang out through the manor while he ran and that only fueled more of his worries, as well as sparking a bit of anger inside his chest. He knew that the gunfire would cause the children to become more scared and at that thought, his anger grew. As he turned the corner and entered the main hall, Kia’s pale yellow eyes widened as the Zanark soldiers started firing their guns at the elderly man within the room and at someone outside.

No… Kia was frozen in place for a moment, unable to move from the sight before him of the elderly man dying. Though, when their leader advanced briskly forward to Raiku and cuffed him, Kia was finally to gather strength into his legs and pulled out his tanto from the holster strapped against his waist.

“Raiku!”

Rushing toward Raiku and the Zanark soldier, Kia held the tanto—still inside in its scabbard—behind him, letting it trail back as he ran swiftly. Like the man with the twin swords that had also rushed at the soldier from the elderly man's side, Kia swung his tanto as if it were truncheon weapon—not intending to unsheathe it—when he was close enough to the Zanark soldier, intending to get him away from the drakonite. With anger building up inside Kia, he didn't notice the other soldiers behind the older man.
