I have created this thread with one purpose and one purpose only: to have people vent what they hate about Tales of Symphonia. Now, I'm gonna say this right now, I liked ToS, it was a good game. There was just so much I didn't like about it.

I think I'll start with the characters. Lloyd...well, I hate Lloyd. I'm not even sure why, he just really, REALLY annoyed me throughout the story. His entire being just pissed me off. I'm also gonna say this right now(get your bricks ready), I HATE Scott Menville as Lloyd. Scott Menville is great voice actor, he's been in a lot of things I liked. It's just that the way he voiced Lloyd was very grating to my ears. Brian Beacock was only a slight improvement.

I honestly don't have much to say on Colette, perhaps others do, but I don't.

Genis is probably my least favorite character in the series. He had little very little character development that I could see. He could have been very easily worked out of the story. His personality wasn't much beyond being a sarcastic, racist, smart kid. He was just a terrible character.

I didn't like Raine at first. She wasn't very likable. Her being a ruinaphile could have been handled much better than it was. She was not very good. Once I got to Tethe'alla, however, I liked her more. When I learned of her backstory, I immediately started to like her. It's just a shame that her backstory was Vesperia'd.

Kratos is voiced by Cam Clarke, therefore, I instantly love him. I was able to see the twists involving him from a mile away. He wasn't a bad character, he could have just been executed better.

I would have liked Sheena better if she had been a bit more sullen. Her backstory was sad and I was sad for her. She had more of a role than the other Tethe'allans, but she role in story is mainly dropping the two worlds bomb, being the summoner and having boobs. I like her a lot, but she should have been a bit darker.

Zelos is the man, I like him. I don't see how he could of been worked out of the story, so that's good. His backstory was okay at best, I didn't see much wrong with it. Zelos as a whole was a decent character, he gets you free items! Feel free to disagree.

Presea and Regal are my favorite characters in the game. they were great characters on their own, but in the story, they were just...there. Presea to fill the loli quota and Regal to be a father figure in Kratos' place. It saddens me that two great characters played very little in the plot.

Mithos was an okay villain. He clearly must have liked his sister in that way, though. That is the only way his actions could make sense to me. The other villains fairly boring and flat. No opinions on Yuan and Botta.

The story itself was actually good in my eyes. The deconstruction of the whole "Chosen One saves the world" thing is standard for Tales, but yeah, it wasn't bad. No major complaints.

My qualms with the gameplay are nitpicky at best. My biggest is the relationship thing(I consider it a gameplay element). It was REALLY unnecessary.

Well, it feels nice to have that off my chest. So, what are your pains?

If I got anything wrong with the characters, please forgive me. I haven't played Symphonia in over a year.

So romantic love is the only love strong enough to get people to go to extremes? >_>

And my only gripe with the game is the affection system: it makes it impossible to get all the characters' backstories and development in less than eight playthroughs, creates endless dumb pairings wars and doesn't even make the different endings very personalized (a character appearing before Lloyd at the end is not enough imo, especially when they all show that they have better things to do than go Exsphere hunting with him in the epilogue). I love the idea that the choices you make are influencing something, but I didn't like some aspects of its execution in Symphonia.

Then she'd just fill up with water. Maybe she doesn't need to breath and just walked across the ocean floor....I can see how this could annoy someone.

I only have three parts I didn't like about the game. And a character personality problem.

1. The Ymir Forest
(If you haven't played ToS for awhile, you can really get lost in there. Also, it's difficult to remember the actions that you did before.)

2. Latheron Gorge
(Like I said, if you haven't played Symphonia for awhile, this place can potentially trip you up. It's pretty hard to remember what flowers to bring back/which ones to kill/which ones to travel by.)

3. The Anti-Gravity Rooms
(Once again, if you haven't played for quite sometime, it's sorta a challenge to re-find that pattern of movements taken to reach the next level.)

Oh, last but not least, Colette. I just don't like her for some reason. I mean, I keep thinking that it's her clumsy personality that's bothering me, but honestly, I have no idea. I mean, yeah, she's a pretty good fighter and everything, but what I'm thinking is that she gets taken away WAY to easily and she's not always with you in your party when you want/need her the most. I believe that's what it was. All around though, her personality was okay when it came to kindess, but it's those aspects of her being TOO easily kidnapped, and too clumsy, that made her annoying in my opinion.

Ymir and Latheon were annoying the first time around, but now they're pretty easy.

hurrrr puzzles that were meant to be hard are hard

Ymir Forest I can definitely agree on, Latheon not as much. Anti-grav rooms are just one-at-a-time floor puzzles.

AGREED.

And the Ymir forest was pretty annoying x.x

Oh, and nothing against Regal, but his smug face ANNOYS the hell outta me in the game. It doesn't make him look manly, it makes him look creepy.
I'm so happy to see his gorgeous face in the anime :'D

Came here to complain about this but now I don't really need to.

Seriously, I find it more annoying than the Tower's anti-gravity rooms and Ymir Forest combined.
