I've heard that Zelos is more open to liking Lloyd in the Japanese version, but that's actually believable since other countries seem to censor things like that without reason behind it.
After Zelos' great acting throughout the whole game and then again when he betrays the group, nope. You can't tell. 8D;

Yeah. Senel wasn't over Stella throughout the entire time Shirley went all emo. Like Walter. He said all she can be is a memory, but the way he put it, it was like saying, "Well, you weren't important to me until Stella died..." She was, but not more than being a sister to him. He also goes to Stella's grave at the end of the game, so it shows he still loves her. He still has not gotten over her completely even by the end of the game. I doubt that because Stella died, he'd decide to go with her younger sister. That and it'd be kind of rude to make Shirley go up by herself after she saved him. Although you COULD think of it as, "Well, I saved you from being a depressed, genocide blonde, and now you saved me. We're even. Go up by yourself. I'm not holding your hand through life anymore - literally. >C" But since Senel isn't like that, of course he'd be nice about it.

I bet Shirley would've been ever so jealous if she saw those two times Moses hugged Senel. =P

You mean when she thought he'd had Grune over for the night? xD Poor Grune wasn't even there for five minutes. D8 I would've thought Shirley didn't view Grune to sleep around with her friends like that. > : O

Lol. With anyone else I'd doubt that but this is Shirley we're talking about and so it's perfectly believable.

Grune's a bit unpredictable, atleast as far as they're concerned. Combine that with Shirley's jealousy of anyone female who has anything to do with Senel and I suspect she really did believe that.

I know Senel was never fully over Stella but how over her he was is debatable. I'm sort of unsure as to whether it was Shirley, Stella or even neither of them who prevented him from having a real relationship in the end but whatever the case, he certainly wasn't in a good position for that sort of thing at that point.

I do like to think Chloe and Senel could have ended up together if it weren't for Senel's circumstances but I'm really not sure on that.

Hell, Shirley pretty much got jealous of Norma when she said she'd be staying with him the night. Sheesh, she even threatened to use eres. Couldn't talk to Chloe until after Chloe's CQ, either. >.>

Shirley was jealous of Stella, too... What to do with this girl...

Senel being with Shirley was probably causing problems for the Ferines, anyway. Take Thyra for example. She flipped out on Shirley, and Fenimore did at first, too. Fenimore actually had the heart enough to take the time to acknowledged the Orerines, though. I'm pretty sure Thyra only accepted Shirley to some extent by the end. Most Ferines probably disapprove of one of their own being with an Orerines, much more so for the Merines. Even if they've started getting along by the end, it would take a long time, like Maurits said or at least implied, for the two races to finally get along completely.

I'm sure Stella would have wanted Senel to move on after her death, although that doesn't mean "go fall in love with my little sister". >.>

*sorry to butt in*

He's not, really. The only thing he's more open about is his pervertedness, mostly in regards to Sheena (he actually says the word "breasts" a few times, where the English version toned it down). The rest is the same.

Well, if you've played the Japanese version and could understand every word, then sure. But that won't change my love for the pairing.

...Where did you get that I was trying to change your love for the pairing?
I was just rectifying a misconception I've seen going around for some time, that's all.

As a matter of fact, I did Wink

*sigh* How did I know that question was going to come up? =_= It was a simple statement. Obviously you didn't try to change it.

Then you have more backup than people who don't know.

Back onto the proper topic at hand... if nobody in-game gets Senel, how 'bout I get 'im? Wink Sounds perfectly fair to me~.

It's the way you worded it. And apparently you knew that it would cause misinterpretation, since you expected the question Wink

Anyway, back on topic indeed. Personally, I don't really like the "settle for the sister of the now deceased ex-girlfriend" either. Especially since he's always seen Shirley as his sister himself. So Chloe.

I just figured it would because it isn't the first time it's happened. I was actually hoping you'd figure I was saying that as in, just because the rumors aren't exactly true doesn't mean I'll change my mind about the pair.

Actually, it's even weirder when you think about it all. Senel was going to propose to Stella. Thus, they'd be getting married at some point. With that, he and Shirley would be in-law siblings. Thus saying, if they DID marry and THEN Stella died, would he marry Shirley afterward too, even though they were in-laws? This is a major reason I don't like Senel with Shirley.

Forcing real world laws into a world where marriage is an act of nature is likely to cause problems anyway, so I think we can discount the "intended inlaws" aspect, but the fact that they've been adoptive brother and sister for years (3 I think) is definitely enough to make it disturbing in that respect.

I had no problems with Shirley when playing the game but the more I think about it, the more messed up she seems. I'm starting to wonder if she even ever was interested in Senel or if it was all some kind of twisted "I want what you've got" sibling rivalry as she never really cared for him much except when she felt she was in danger of losing him. I think I might be taking things a little to far though.

Yeah, it's three.

That's how I felt at first. But Shirley has this obsession with him that he doesn't return. That and their ages are a problem. The ages of seventeen and fifteen have different mentalities. People might say, "it's only a two year difference!", but the maturity and mentality if greater by age seventeen than fifteen. It's hard to explain if someone doesn't fully understand or even slightly understand psychology, but the maturity levels of those ages is what usually keeps people from those age groups being together in such a sense. Shirley is clearly not mature enough to be a in relationship, seeing as she pulled something REALLY stupid after she was rejected. It was as simple as, "I loved you, but you rejected me, so I'm going to destroy your entire race in a fit of rage". It's clear Shirley isn't at the age where she can understand what a relationship is like. Even a seventeen year old probably does not understand the full extent of it, but they can grasp it much easier than a fifteen year old.

Shirley also seemed jealous of Stella when their new friend was more interested in her than in Shirley herself. She was always seemingly jealous of her sister.

The part where it shows Senel going to get Shirley to leave the village also seems a bit off for Shirley. She sounds like she's a bit suspicious when she notices Stella isn't with Senel, and asks where she is. Then there's the issue of when Maurits told her he was a former soldier of Vaclav. She knew and got upset, even going so far as to say, "Why did we ever have to meet each other?". Stella was mature enough to handle knowing Senel was an eren, and she trusted him. Shirley later admits she lost her trust for Senel (during Jay's CQ), and in effect, distrusted all Orerines, as well.

It's true Senel might not be at an exact maturity age for this kind of thing, but with the life he's lived thus far, of course he's much more mature than Shirley. Chloe is also much more mature than Shirley is, just like Stella was.

Basically, I highly doubt Shirley is capable of handing her emotions at the age she's at. It's true she's lost people important to her, but instead of going down the right path which Fenimore and Stella wanted her to go, she freaked out and tried to kill thousands of people. Sure, she seems more mature by the end of the game, but I don't think she's gotten to the point where she can be depended on with her own choices. I know I'd be one of the last people to say, "Let's leave it to Shirley".

Ok. That all makes sense and being brought up knowing you're "supposed" to kill everyone one day can't help but I'm still not sure that accounts for all of her messed up nature.

I'm sure Stella was also taught to hate Orerines, but she didn't. She didn't end up a thing like Shirley. She also said she wanted her to use her powers to make people happy. Instead she used her powers and made people suffer. I guess Vaclav wasn't joking at all when he called her a failed Merines. >.>

I thought Shirley was the only true Merines and thus the only one brought up to believe she actively had to kill people. Stella, in theory, was just intended to sit there and watch while Shirley did all the work as far as I can tell.

You know, Ryuu, you got me thinking... had they portrayed Shirley as someone who's really irrational, insecure, and overall messed up as a result of, essentially, being brainwashed as a child, she would actually be an interesting character, and a brilliant deconstruction of the messiah. It's really too bad they just stuck with having Shirley as a goody-two-shoes who never does any wrong.
