I have posted this before but Ill post it in the new section too(its the only story I have on my com)
Ballad of a Dying Man
When we got the call, it was a bleary Sunday morning. They said he was grievously injured in the war and he might not live. Grief spread like wildfire through my family after hearing what had happened to my father. We set off to see him and when we got there, we learned that he would not live.
That was two days ago. Now being his father, I sat with him alone as I saw life ebb away from him. I looked at his face. Far from peaceful, it was contorted in pain and hatred. As long as he fought against the death that was griping him, he still had a chance. Just then I heard a cry of sadness, then the buzz of a machine and I knew that he was dead. He had given up.
For a minute, I was stunned. This could not be happening. Why did he give up? He had a chance at life. Then, I got a strange feeling. I felt strange, like I was being pulled toward my son. I started to delve into the young man’s mind. I watched as his life played out before me, like on fast forward. I saw his childhood shoot by, his high school years and his time in college. I saw a battlefield. Everything seemed to slow down as if this is what he wanted me to see. I heard the screams of men as artillery shells blew. Blood and flesh rent the air. I saw my son with someone I recognized as his best friend in the service. I watched with terror as they ran forward and my son friend was hit with mortar and blown to pieces. With a scream my son leapt forward and killed the man who had killed his friend. He then stopped in disbelief, he had killed a man. A sin he had committed and he was shocked as the true horrors of war hit him. Soon he was hit by a bullet and was still in utter disbelief as he fell to the ground. H e lay there in agony as he faded into unconsciousness.
The blackness was swirling around me and I was back in the hospital room. Even to this day, I wondered what really happened. But I do know why I saw that vision. I think my son wanted me to know why he had let go. Seeing his best friend die in front of him and having the realization that he had killed someone was too much sorrow to bear. I myself do not no the horrors of war but realize that it would be living hell.

I like to have everyone here get at least one reply.
5/5. It was a very emotional story and I liked it a lot. It's very applicable during these troubled times. _________________
