Congrats to Master, and I'll definitely try to give you concrit when I can, Aelph. Smile

Aelph, as for your posting dilemma... I kind of think here might be better if you're just looking for good concrit from us, since some reviewers on FP tend to post something along the lines of "Good work, can't wait to see more!" But wherever you decide post it, I'll be sure to read it. Smile

As Roadie said, I'm not too sure if you'll get good concrit from FP, since most outside commenters are "Good job, can't wait to read more!" (I'm a hypocrite saying that, but I'll do my best to improve...?), but it's ALWAYS worth a shot to see what you get, right? You never know until you find out.

Heck, you could even just post a couple of chapters at a time and see how many commenters that're willing to offer concrit and that, and see if you want to continue posting it there or not.

And Lady, I'll be seeing you around. ): I can understand, though. Times are hard (from what I read of your LJ, anyways...), so...thank you, though, for starting this place up. Thank you oh so very much for that!

And if a new thread is going to be made...sure. It's all up to you, Squid. Congrats on taking over. (:

And this month's idea...I liked Duo's, so...whatever's good for you guys. :'D

So things are changing around here.... I don't really have that much to say, except wasn't this going to be moved to a forum of its own somewhere? Why make a new topic then?

On other subjects, my Fan-Tales is going to be copyrighted. Yeah, I know I can't copyright the Fan-Tales itself. I'm actually copyrighting a separate version which is missing the (very few) Tales links. By the time I put it up on this forum it will be under a preregistration copyright.

The good news is that I'm almost ready to put it up. If anyone cared.

It takes time to create a new forum(unless you use invasion boards then it's zip zam), so a new topic is to tide us over until then.

How do you do that? I'd be interested in doing it -- but I thought stories were automatically protected under intellectual property laws.

They are, as I understand it. However, you have to prove that the other party was aware they were violating your copyright by taking your work (i.e. you had to have a statement of copyright on the page), and -if- you register for an official copyright (for a fee, of course), and the matter goes to court, in addition to any amount awarded to you if you win the lawsuit, you can be reimbursed for your legal fees by the guilty party. Again, as I understand it, which is from... very limited research when there was another "Congress is going to destroy artists' copyrights!" scare about some bill a while back.

@ New Thread: Is there actually any compelling need for a new topic because we switched who's in charge? Would it just be so that Squiddy could edit the first post (Congrats from me as well, although I'm not sure you necessarily -want- to be the coordinator for -this- group... XD)?

That was basically how I understood it, too, though not in so much detail... Thanks for the info. Smile

I need to ask my dad about it before I put anything up, I guess. He's been through law school and took a couple of intellectual property courses...

Technically yes but if someone takes your idea, and you sue them, you will pretty much automatically win the case if your work is under an official copyright. Since the copyrights are listed on the site the person you're suing can't plead that they didn't know about it. Very Happy

If what you want to copyright isn't actually done you have to get a preregistration copyright though, to my knowledge, and then register it when it's done. You can go to www.copyright.gov and look at the details there. It costs $100 for a prereg but I don't know how much for a register in general; I didn't lok that up since it wasn't necessary for me to do so yet.

Well, Duo went a little farther in explaining it than I did, but anyway, that's the case. I know about it because I'm going to have to deal with it a lot in the future, especially if I freelance. XD

My dad says it's unecessary in most cases if you're talking about things online -- unless there's a good chance of it being stolen (i.e., you're a known author), intellectual property laws will cover you. In many cases, it's possible to track whether or not someone has, in fact, seen your work if you accuse them to taking it. (ISP records and such like. In most cases, ruling will be in your favour, if it's even an issue of that magnitude.)

Not trying to talk you out of it, just offering to all the advice I can get for free from a lawyer. Wink

Better safe then sorry though. As I've had experience with.

Depends on the individual situation. Definitely. Smile

Right, I proooooobably won't be around much here the next few days. I'll be hanging around other sections of the forums, more than likely, but I doubt here will get much attention while Rain is visiting. So... I'll be back in a week or so.

Looks like a lot happened when I left...

Congrats on becoming the new head honcho, squidmaster! Of course everyone has problems to deal with, Lady, so have fun out there in the real world and good luck.

On the FP thing...I've never actually been to the site Crying or Very sad but from what I've heard, you'd be better off posting here, Aelph, since we'll give concrit if wanted. Though I've been guilty of the "Pat on the back" comments for a long time running...

Thanks for the support, everyone. =D Sorry the new thread isn't up yet; I've got a lot of schoolwork being thrown at me, but I'll get it up asap.

In the meantime, this means I can approve Duo's prompt. Requote:

Quote:
The vast majority of us probably have at least one character who wouldn't get all enthusiastic about Valentine's day, right? So what if our challenge is "A Valentine's Day... Carol"? Complete with ghosts. Or other members of the cast pretending to be ghosts. Who could go on to complain about how they'd rather be off with X-significant other but they've been drafted into showing this person The True Meaning of Valentine's Day™.

And as for the second one--we'll keep it simple. Have two of your characters spend some time together, but a third party must be included at some point. Do they want him to leave from the beginning? Or does he intrude sometime in the middle? Is it even an intrusion at all...?

Entries can be PMed or emailed to me (squid.master @ yahoo. com).
