Chapter 1'd!! Here's the first chapter of the angel/demon fic. Hope someone enjoys this.

The doors on the bullet train were about to slam shut when a young man rushed up, only to run into the doors, face first. Thankfully for him, the doors were kind and opened for his not-so-grand entrance. He immediately took the first empty seat he saw and sat down.

It was going to be a long day.

He only just moved into the city, and already he was fairly nervous. When the train started moving, the man couldn't help but notice the amount of police officers stationed on the train. It was just a small train, so why was the security needed? Did it get robbed often?

Another, older man who sat next to him saw his confusion, and asked him, "Are you new to this city?"

The younger fellow stuttered a bit before answering, "Uh, yes, I am."

"You're probably wondering why the train has more police than you're used to, right?" The older man then inquired, to which the younger man nodded.

"Well," the older man lowered his voice quite a bit, as if the story he was about to tell was forbidden knowledge, "This city is not a normal city.

"Angels and demons actually live in this city, they're not mythological figures. The angels dwell all high and mighty at the giant hill at the back of the city--Whisper Hill. While the demons reside in the underground tunnels here."

The listener raised his eyebrows as he continued to take in the new information. Then he asked, also keeping his voice low, "So the demons steal from the trains? And from just about anyone?"

The old man nodded, impressed that the younger fellow figured it out in an instant, unlike most newcomers, "Aye, especially since the angels want to maintain the image of the demons being completely wiped out, and with that, they put a spell on all the train entrances to keep the demons out."

"Why didn't they just wipe out the demons altogether?" the young man then inquired; for him, the elimination would've been common sense.

"Maybe the past angels were sympathetic," the other man started, "But the reason we don't say anything is that we don't want to cause another war. We're mortals for cryin' out loud! We can't use magic nor are we physically capable, so we can't have the city become a battlefield." The older man finished, as the train came to a stop.

Everyone began to rise off the seats and head out for the doors. The young man was among the people who departed, but now his head was filled with thoughts and unanswered questions. His attention was a little too caught up in his thoughts, as he was quick to find himself walking, yet again, into another object, only this time, it was a pole on his way to the stairwell. And again, the collision was face first.

Rapid footsteps could be heard, echoing throughout the cavern's narrow pathways. Heavy breathing also accompanied them, followed by a yell, "KAROL! Hurry up!"

"What do you think I'm trying?!" came the annoyed response.

The running continued for a few minutes until a train had passed, cutting off the two thieves from their pursuer. The little boy had to jump off the tracks from the incoming train, and nearly dropped some valuables from the bag he carried in the process.

"You're going to pay for this, you little punks!!" the man screamed when the train departed and he was forced to leave.

Both of the children let out a heavy sigh, and the boy got back up, "That was close."

The girl, who was older than he was and easily distinguished by the goggles on her head, commented, "You know, if you didn't try to go for that carton of eggs, he wouldn't have noticed us."

She got a sharp glare as her reply, "Hey, we need everything we can get!"

Rolling her eyes, the girl just muttered some indistinguishable comment under her breath, with the younger boy following in pursuit as she walked off.

It took a good fifteen minutes until the pair reached their destination. The place was easily recognized by the poorly built shacks that many made as their home. Smaller campfires dotted the area, and most of the people seen were poorly clothed, and it was apparent they lacked water for bathing in.

It was also apparent at first sight that the people were demons, as their black, scaly wings were exposed.

The small boy let his small pair of wings come out, also black in colour, proof that he was among his fellow kind. He then started to head towards the farthest sector of the underground. The girl started to follow, knowing where their goods were going.

On the path, a familiar figure awaited them: it was the shape of a dog, with the odd sight of a pipe in its mouth. It patiently sat atop the small mound of mud in front one of the shacks that was obviously better off. The dog was well accustomed to the scent the two youngsters had, and it knew the reason they were here.

"Hey Repede, look what we found!" the boy retrieved and held up a bag of dog food, waving it in front of its face.

"Rawrf!" the dog just barked, not bothering to move from its spot.

"Ok, yeah, fine, don't get excited for the dog food." The boy sighed, placing the bag back into the cargo, heading up to the entrance of the shack.

"Flynn! Where is Flynn!" a voice rang out over the lavishly decorated halls, the floors covered with thick red carpets, and the walls holding a few lovely paintings of angels and breath-taking natural scenery.

A nearby female voice responded, "Flynn has left for groceries."

The owner of the previous voice came out of one of the doors. A genuine angel, his feathered wings were white to the point of shining in light. His choice in clothing also reflected the desired image, a white suit with a complementary black tie, and his long brown hair tied back in a low, loose tail, trailing down to half past his back, with his beard matching his hair in colour.

"Estellize's birthday ceremony is in an hour, and she will return when it starts," He said, "I have a few things to go over with Flynn before the celebration."

The next angel, the one who had previously answered his question asked, "Is that related to the Angel's Rule of Engagement?"

He nodded, "Yes, and I just want to make sure he's fully understood his role if Estellize doesn't find her guardian angel at her 20th ceremony."

And with that, he left to help organize the rest of the party. The other angel remained at her desk, filing papers. Her thoughts continued onto the angel's policy with love and marriage.

When she was younger she never paid it much thought, since she found her true love at an early age. The "guardian angel" was just a term for one's true love. But now that the Elder had mentioned it, she remembered what she'd been told as a little girl.

All female angels had necklaces on their chests that were red in colour. When both she and her lover expressed true love, the jewel would glow, signifying who her guardian angel was. And if she never found a love at the age of 20, she would still be wed to a bachelor angel chosen by the council of elders. And the males had little to no partaking in the whole thing, so it was pretty much a girl's only matter. It sounded like a fairy tale, and it was very true.

All she knew about Estellize's predicament was that Flynn was chosen for her, and most of the elders were eager with the match: both were born from high ranked angels, and both were quite skilled in their fields of magic for Estellize and diplomacy for Flynn. Both of them were also good friends, though the elders seem a tad disappointed that Estellize's crystal didn't glow. They just sighed and decided to wait for that moment, if it was towards another angel.

But that was all they could do. Estellize was more interested in being more of a scholar than finding a boyfriend. She poured herself into her studies, so she could very well serve as a historian, even if her curiosity got the better of her, which happened on more than one occasion.

The woman sighed. She was glad not to have to deal with that sort of mumbo-jumbo, as she referred to it. She went about filing papers as she usually did, focusing only on her task and ending her thinking.
