Nobody played it because it wasn't very good. 
I'd still like a chance to give it a go, though. Just to see what it's like. I'm curious. |

Me too. I might like it, cause I'm one of those people that likes the Tales games that everybody else hates on. >_>
But the only thing that's kinda lame is that there's no Celestia in ToEO.

I said North America not America and what I meant was that they only targeted Japan and not the rest of the world. If you want an MMO to work you have to target everyone and not a selected region. I would love to be able to play it. |

Well... not quite. Obviously, most companies would like the widest possible audience they can bring in, but in this case, you'd have a situation where most people in North America would be unfamiliar with the source game, so this game would have to have something going for it on its own merits -- and really, from what I've heard, it didn't. So bringing it to North America would probably have been a very bad idea.
And there are tons of MMOs that are region-specific -- lots in South Korea, certainly, that haven't made it elsewhere, because the market for them there is so huge.
Still wish we'd gotten it, though, but that's for completely selfish reasons. I don't think it would have been a good idea on Namco's part to try to market it to North American audiences -- it already sounds like they probably lost some money on it. |

I didn't say nobody liked it. Just that it wasn't very well-received because general opinion was that it was too difficult to control (? -- so I've heard, but what did you think?), didn't have Celestia, etc. If there are private servers supporting it now, clearly, there were some people who enjoyed it, and I'm glad they did. (And I'd love a chance to actually try it myself.  ) But the general opinion was negative, as far as I can tell.
I have the box set, too, but I didn't get it until about a month before they stopped supporting it. *sigh* I have terrible timing. |

I believe that the people doing the private server are also making a translation, so we'll be able to understand it.

The controls were okay. It was simplified to make use of the mouse and keyboard, but they added a combo system of sorts to make it a bit more interesting. Each skill had some variation you could learn from a quest or something, and it would have a special effect if done in the proper combo. For example, there was a Raijinken variation that restored 5 TP if you did Thrust, Slash, Thrust, Raijinken; this was my main way of recovering TP. >_>
If you were fighting an enemy that was too tough, you could call for help and if someone felt like helping you, they could enter your encounter and save you. If you didn't survive, someone could also be nice and piggyback you to a church or wherever you had to go to be revived instead of letting you lose a chunk of exp.
I also liked how some outfits made you look like Tales characters from other series, such as Lion or Presea...
