Retcon means to retell the past events in a way that previous entries in the story become invalid.

An example would be the Lion King. It ended with a lion cub being held up. Disney released some books showing that the cub was a boy named Kopa. Then they released a movie with begins showing the cub, only the cub is recolored to look more feminine. And in the movie it says their cub was a girl named Kiara. In other words, it voided out the official book (and the ending of the previous movie as far as coloring).

To me it seems like the new game may conflict with events in the CDs, thus causing it to retcon them.

Ah... so that's what that means. >_> I tried looking it up online, on webster, and it wasn't even a word. <_<

That would be weird if KoR did that. But I suppose the CD's are just fan service, and really have nothing to do with the aftermath of ToS... (then again, I don't really know, since I've never heard any of them.)

And, I didn't know that about the Lion King. lol. They voided their own book. That's kinda funny.

For the record, ToS is the only Tales of game that developed a gigantic fanbase. All of them were good, but with ToS being one of the only RPG's to arrive on the gamecube, gamers just went for it. I think I speak for msot of us that I'll be severely disappointed if KoR doesn't make it here though.

I really hope the OVA has a second part, really.... though I do admit, they probably SHOULD have made this a long time ago.

It won't be devastating to me if KoR disregards the CD's, but it will be somewhat disappointing.... and I fear what the irrational Sheeloyd fans will say if it does. I can just imagine the "Hah! It isn't canon!"'s that will pop up.

Note: I'm not saying all of them are like that.

I don't think they will retcon the cd's, really, I considier the CD's more like side events than anything, they can just make a game that doesn't mention the CD events at all, and nothing will change, one would still be able to speculate whether the events happened or not XP. That's what I think anyway.

I wish I heard all of these CD's so I could give a better opinion on the matter. :\

I'll just say: I hope nothing messes with nothing.

Either way you look at it, there will be disappointment.

Sheelloyd fans for Zelos and Sheena being a possible canon pairing in the end, if the game follows the CD's. Or others, for expecting the game to tie in with the events of the CD's and getting let down. (and yeah... for some Sheelloyd fans who will undoubtably rub it in the faces of Sheelos fans that this pairing isn't canon. And vice-versa for some Sheelos fans. *can only imagine the pairing war to come* >_>)

And yeah, it's kind of sad that the only Tales game that did really well over here Tales of Symphonia. Unfortunatly, there are still a lot of people out there that associate the Tales series with Symphonia, and know very little, or nothing else about it.

Even though this was my first tales game, I've been more than willing to play the rest of them. And I think the one's that I've played have been great. (as I stated before, lol.)

I agree. I don't understand why the OVA wasn't made at the time Symphonia released. You think with the success it gartered in both the US and Japan, that at the time, there would've been enough fanfare to support it. I hope the lapse in time hasn't damaged our chances of seeing the Tethe'alla part of the OVA.

If they disregard the CDs, it will show that Namco doesn't really care about the product if they decide to release products concerning the storyline, then totally ignore them when they decide to continue.

Of course, the CDs were just released for the sake of profit. But if Namco doesn't care enough to follow their own storyline they made with the CDs, it shows they don't really care that much about the fans.

That's the only thing that bothers me.

As far as storyline, the only thing it would change is Lloyd didn't pick Colette at the end, but it would make sense for the 2nd game to do that since you have multiple endings. But they are saying lots of things happened to the weather of the planet, those things would have been mentioned in the CDs, I would think. At least in RRT where they are traveling around the world.

It's not that I care about the pairings. Because really RRT didn't pair up Zelos and Sheena at the end. They are together at the end, but it's vague enought that it doesn't pair them up. He just stopped by to see her after a long absense. Maybe he just left and that and that's it. And Lloyd and Colette traveling the world together didn't exactly pair them up either. Maybe they would go their seperate ways at the end of their journey. It's not known.

The only thing Namco would do by ignoring the CDs is show they don't really care about their overall product.

Maybe, the CD's were probably just there for the sake of the fans, but it does show Namco has its own support for Sheena/Zelos interaction XP

Pairings are probably the things most argued about in the ToS fandom, but thing is that Namco has made things as such so that, while they are more biased towards and there are more hints to certain pairings (default), none of them really "tie the knot"

...Why would it change if Lloyd picked Colette in the end?

Anyway, I actually didn't think pairings would be really a major thing in KoR, at least, not among the original cast, so I didn't think about whether or not they'd disregard the CD's. Rather, I just figured that they wouldn't mention nor contradict the CD's, and leave things somewhat open for the public to speculate what may or may not have happened during the two year gap. Confused

And I'm actually in the process of finishing something. XD (Finally.) Having a hard time with the inking though. For some reason, people keep on bothering me and making me make stupid mistakes that I usually don't make. DX

I doubt they will contradict the CDs... there's not much to contradict anyway...
The only thing they can do is not mention who went with Lloyd, but it seems pretty obvious that it's Colette.
And about the weather thing : the drama cds happened very soon after the end of the game, so maybe the weather was still fine at that time...

There isn't really anything to contradict in the first set besides who Lloyd picked. (Unless they retell some of that flashback stuff in a way that contradicts, which I doubt they will do.) They will most likely either say he picked Colette or not mention it at all. The descriptions from RnK make it sound like he went alone.

LLTA was immediately after the game, but RRT takes place one year after the end of ToS. That's why I would think the weather changes would be apparent in RRT.

We can't really say if they will contradict or not yet. I'm just saying it looks like they might. Can't tell until the game comes out.

Edit: From a video game standpoint, it would make sense to not say who he picked since the previous game has multiple endings. Even though the CDs made the Colloyd ending official. (Not the pairing, just that ending. They still aren't a couple even in the CDs. Just really, really close.)

What do you mean by LLTA ? it's ALTA. And it takes place 6 month after the end (or many years before XD).

ALTA is after the game and in flashback to before the game.

What is 6 months after the game? ALTA? I never saw a statement on its timeline. Six months isn't that much time to show the weather. Plus, since it's mostly flashbacks I didn't really expect it to.

I just think the changes would show up in RRT.

Lloyd and Colette's story in alta happen at least 6 month after the game, because Colette says they haven't met Zelos since a half year ago.
And, of course, the flashbacks are from before (sometimes during or after) the game.

Anyway, the weather idea came when they decided to make Ratatosk, so they couldn't have thought of it when alta and rrt were made...
