It is AWESOME!

HAHAHA! Anyway, I like ToD2 more than ToDr. That's why I commented on that, but I think it is understandable that most people want ToDr more.

Thai. I considered Japanese as my fourth language though, third if looking at how fluent I am. (I mean, I am not a good speaker in any of the languages other than Thai. I read manga a lot in Japanese as a practice and do some translations of them to make sure that I keep track at which word I know and which I don't know. And, it's third because my Mandarin sucks BADLY -*- )

I don't see how you can understand ToD2 as well unless you play ToDr first.

You seem to be pretty darn good at English, so you're a pretty awesome linguist.
There was a point when I was coming close to being fluent in French... that was long ago.

Well, a thing is I used to want ToD2 even before I went out and bought my ToDr. A thing is, I spoiled as much as possible before I played the game, usually. So, major spoiler only add to my appetite (since the more it is, the more I want to play. Example, a very thing that get me interested in Tales series as a whole is that Luke is a replica of Asch; one thing that drives me into wanting to play ToD2 like crazy before I bought it is that Judas is Leon, resurrected by Elraine, but he doesn't want to help Elraine, so he got banished into wandering around before meeting Kyle)
So, yep, I can understand ToD2 even before I actually bought ToDr.

Nope. My English grammar still is kind of bad IMO. And I'm not a linguist. Language is my weakness in academic ever since Junior High, and I still don't believe that I am good at languages.
I know only, like, 10 French words from watching the French subbed anime on dailymotion when youtube got banned. A lot of my friends say French is difficult to learn, though. Don't know if it is true or not. - -"

I also played ToD2 before ToDR and it's pretty easy to understand and make connections from ToD2 to ToD even if you just know the gist of ToD's story and characters. ToD2 has a different story and everything, so you basically just need to know about the Swordians and their masters, and who Lion was. Though ToDR is awesome, the second half of the game was harsh with a long string of dungeons and immediate seriousness... gah, I really dislike it when the party goes totally serious obsessive over defeating the final boss. The second part of ToDR would be especially hard to understand if you can't speak Japanese, but ToD2 at least has story guides.
Overall, I think ToD2 shines much more (particularly in characters) than ToD/R, but only because it's ToD's sequel and I love the connections and such. hehe, it's weird. (The Swordian part is my favourite. <3 so awesome, but I won't expand because it's spoilerific)
