The Complete Asch Guide

Version 1.5 -- 08/14/2007

| Introduction |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

This guide is all about making the most out of one of the best characters in Tales of the Abyss: Asch. In the game, he is normally only usable for two short periods of time, since Asch is what's known as a sub-character. Therefore, he's only temporary...or at least, that's what he was meant to be...

Because of a hardware glitch that was left in, you can use it to your advantage and easily force Asch into your party to take Luke's place for the whole game, if you so desire. Essentially, for 90% of all times and places, the game will not even notice Luke is missing, which is practically ideal.

The other alternative, is to use a hacking device (i.e. CB/XP/GS/AR). Either method can be used to recruit Asch, however, there are even more possibilities if you have a such a hacking device.

Whatever the case, this guide provides all the information you need about Asch, the "dos", the "don'ts", and more.

Now, please enjoy my extensive guide which I consider to be stalwart...or even...perfect...

| Recruiting Asch Via The "Map Trick" |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

What is the "Map Trick"? It's hardware glitch that allows you to travel to anywhere on the world map---pass through mountains, walk across ledges and over water. You can do it in all versions TotA to date. So just how is this harmless and useful trick done? Like so:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |The "Map Trick" /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 |- Save your game.
 |- Stand still on the world map.
 |- Eject the disc tray/open the disc cover of the PS2.
 |- Remove the disc, and close the disc tray/cover.
 |- Run away a short distance and all obstacles will disappear.
 |- Insert the disc and close the disc tray/cover to resume the game normally.
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

NOTE 1: Do the last step only if you're over a safe portion of land, or if you enter a town/dungeon/battle/the menu screen, that is to say---if you do anything that requires loading and the screen goes black.

NOTE 2: Beware, re-inserting the disc while over water, a mountain, or a very tiny island will leave you unable to move or "Map Trick" out of there. Saving your game in such a situation will mean you're stuck there permanently!!

You can recruit Asch in the Mushroom Road Sidequest. To start the quest, by speaking to Luke's mother Susanne shortly after finishing the Absorption Gate (the Albiore will get the R3 Feature). Now you need to go to Mushroom Road.

To get there, set the Albiore down just above the water, and travel North-East through a stream located between Rotelro Bridge and Kaitzur. Your destination is a foggy beach shore with mushrooms on it.

Be sure you've removed everything equipped from Luke before entering. Inside, Asch will take Luke's place. Now from the entrance of Mushroom road, take the lower right fork and go NE one screen. Take the upper path right. Head down and then left. Now walk along the mushroom tops until get you get off further north. Head right, in through the hollow trunk, then travel north, and opt to exit to the field.

Outside, grab the Flight Stone if you so desire. Now perform the "Map Trick", and travel to any city that has a port (like Grand Chokmah). Once there, talk to the person at the port to take off in the Albiore again. C'est tout!

NOTE 1: You'll be free to go back to Mushroom Road and exchange Asch for Luke at any time. However, to get Asch again, exit & re-enter until he shows up.

NOTE 2: Asch can only be recruited a total of 3 times from Mushroom Road. After that, he will no longer show up.

NOTE 3: Each time Asch rejoins, his stats will be reset to match Luke's.

NOTE 4: Once you go to Eldrant, you can no longer recruit Asch from Mushroom Road, because that will bring the sidequest to a close. Therefore, trading Asch back for Luke at Mushroom Road after this point will be a permanent deal; meaning Asch will leave for good.

* However, you should not recruit Asch through this glitch as soon the quest becomes available... As you may know, when Luke leaves the party, Mieu leaves as well. So what we want to do, is have Asch AND Mieu so that you can still get certain items, and complete certain sidequests. To get Mieu again automatically, recruit Asch AFTER he joins & leaves in Baticul to visit his parents; this is just prior to entering the Tower of Rem, which is when I recommend getting him. This should should be done before your 2nd visit there so that later in Baticul (and then Yulia City) Mieu will split and rejoin for use again.

* FYI, the cut-off point to having Asch along with getting Mieu back is BEFORE initiating the scenes in Yulia City soon after getting the Jewel of Lorelei. In Yulia City, after witnessing the scene between Tear and Natalia in Tear's room, Luke will become your on-screen character. Don't panic, it's a harmless, temporary glitch; you won't lose Asch. Once the group joins up again, everything will be back to normal, and you'll be able to use Mieu once more.

It's interesting actually...Asch can be the on-screen character and still use Mieu without any glitches. Although, Asch makes no gestures any of Mieu's actions; for instance, Asch just floats upwards without hanging onto him when using the Mieu Wings.

| Recruiting Asch Via Character Modifier Codes |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

NOTE: Go down to my second post to find ARMAX conversions for most of the codes in this guide, as well as a link to download a converter if you want one.

The other way to get Asch is by using codes (Codebreaker, Xploder, Gameshark or Action Replay). Just press the corresponding button combination together at the same time to hack in the desired character into Slot 1 (that's the 1st character space at the top of your menu). You can do it whenever/wherever, as long as it's not during battle (if you do, it just won't take effect until the battle is over). All the following codes in this guide are for the NTSC-U/C version only:

Code:

With this code, you can hack in any character you like, just switch whoever you want into Slot 1 and use a button combination. If you change your mind, hack him/her back out. Just don't create doubles of a character...that's glitchy...

By the way, yes it is possible to have a party of Luke and Asch together! Although, it's better to forgo having Luke over anyone else, since more quests can be done if Luke's the only character missing from the party.

One more thing, there's a harmless bug where Luke and Asch share each other's character portraits in battle (even if you have only one of them) depending on which one you hack in and when:

* If long-haired Luke is normally in the party and you add Asch, both will have long-haired Luke's battle portrait.

* If short-haired Luke is normally in the party and you add Asch, both will have short-haired Luke's battle portrait.

* If Asch is normally in the party (i.e. Ortion Cavern/Mushroom Road quests) and you add short/long-haired Luke, both will have Asch's battle portrait.

So basically if you want to hack in Asch and have him use his own proper battle portrait, use the "Map Trick" first to recruit him from Mushroom Road.

NOTE: Should any of the game's events doing anything funny with your party (like remove and/or duplicate a character), here are the fixes; they both give you a full party of Luke, Tear, Jade, Anise, Guy, Natalia (in that order). Choose the one for whichever hacking device it is that you use:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Party Modifier // (Raw) /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 206D2EC0 03020101
 | 206D2EC4 00060504
 |
 |Should any of the game's events doing anything funny with your party (like
 |remove and/or duplicate a character), here is a quickfix; it gives you a full
 |party of Luke, Tear, Jade, Anise, Guy, Natalia (in that order).
 |
 |You just load the game with it on, save, then reset. That's it, all's well.
 |
 |NOTE: The standard character mod won't work while this code is on.
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Asch does not necessarily cause the game to glitch your party (with or without the use of codes); reports have shown that this game is already glitchy enough to do that all on its own, even with a normal party. -_-

| Unlocking Asch's Equipment |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Asch's Maestro equipment itself is locked, and cannot be removed by any normal means. However, if you use a hacking device, you can make Asch free to equip everything Luke can, except the Nebilim (Asch was programmed that way; also, if Maestro equipment is placed on any other character, it locks out even their own weapons and armor). So, if you want to unlock Asch's protective armament, enter the following codes:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equiment Modifier Codes /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 |  Body: 106D435A 00000000
 | Other: 106D435E 00000000
 |
 |The above codes empty his "Body" and "Other" slots. As for Asch's weapon, use
 |the following code along with a sword's corresponding value substituted in
 |place of xxxx to replace his currently equipped weapon:
_|_____________________________________________________________________________
 |
 |  Weap: 106D4358 0000xxxx
 |
 | 00BE = Cutlass            00CD = Killer Sword       00DC = Vorpal Sword
 | 00BF = Long Sword         00CE = Katana             00DD = Last Fencer
 | 00C0 = Rapier             00CF = Mythril Sword      00DE = Swordian Dymlos
 | 00C1 = Broad Sword        00D0 = Imperial Guard     00DF = Ultimatus
 | 00C2 = Scimitar           00D1 = Mighty Saber       00E0 = Table Knife
 | 00C3 = Steel Sword        00D2 = Hauteclere         00E1 = Wooden Sword
 | 00C4 = Nimble Rapier      00D3 = Schwarzloewe       00E2 = Fonic Sword
 | 00C5 = Great Sword        00D4 = Holy Judgement     00E3 = Fonic Blade
 | 00C6 = Falx               00D5 = Dragon Killer      00E4 = Nebilim*
 | 00C7 = Silver Sword       00D6 = Shakunage          00E5 = Lost Celesti*
 | 00C8 = Wasier Rapier      00D7 = Soul Crush         00E6 = Blade
 | 00C9 = Bastard Sword      00D8 = Full Metal Edge    00E7 = Key of Lorelei*
 | 00CA = Talwar             00D9 = Celcius Calibur    00E8 = Jewel of Gardios*
 | 00CB = Knight Fencer      00DA = Maestro Sword
 | 00CC = Epee               00DB = Flamberge             * = Key Items/Weapons
 |
 |Using the codes above, save your game with them on, then reload it without
 |them. You can now manually equip Asch just like every other character.
 |
 |NOTE: Do not hack in the Lost Celesti until you've already obtained it
 |      normally through the Nebilim sidequest, otherwise it might prevent you
 |      from completing it later on.
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Here are some other useless tidbits of information that I found interesting:

* Whatever weapon you equip Asch with will appear in his cut-scenes even when he's not supposed to be in your party. Of course, once he gets the incomplete Key of Lorelei, that will be the only sword he'll use in cut-scenes till the end of the game.

* If you hack Asch into the game before he first joins you normally, he has an empty accessory slot. When the game finally gives him to you though, any equipment you may have given him, the game will unequip it all and add it to your inventory, as well as re-equip him with all his Maestro stuff. (This is unusual; in most cases with RPGs, typically the game is programmed to simply overwrite and replace the equipment).

| C.Core Modifier Codes |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Because Asch's stats get reset by the game in accordance to Luke's level at certain points in the game, it's recommended that Asch be recruited and built up after you've progressed past those points. However, if you've hacked Asch into your party before the Mushroom Road sidequest and want to pick up where you left off with Asch's C.Core stats, you can always write them down, then edit the xxxx values with the codes below (values must be entered in hexadecimals, i.e. 0009=0009, 0010=000A, 0255=00FF)

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // C.Core Stat Bonus Modifier Codes /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | P.ATK: 106D4364 0000xxxx          F.ATK: 106D4366 0000xxxx
 | P.DEF: 106D4368 0000xxxx          F.DEF: 106D436A 0000xxxx
 |   ENH: 106D436C 0000xxxx            AGL: 106D436E 0000xxxx
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Another trick is to use a code to equip Asch with a C.Core for while he isn't in your party. Then when the game gives him to you, he is reset to match Luke's current level, along with a number of C.Core bonuses multiplied by his level. Simply put, it'll be as if he gained all those levels at once. For example, if you gave Asch the Tutti Core, and Luke was at level 51 when you went to recruit Asch at Mushroom Road, he'll come with +200 to each stat! (50 lvls x 4 = 200)

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equipped C.Core Modifier Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 106D4360 000000xx

 | 5D = Nocer                67 = Esprit Forte         71 = Nocercido
 | 5E = Alca                 68 = Balla Forte          72 = Ballacido

 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Actually, here's a more convenient code for us lazy people...This can equip all characters with the Tutti Core (79). That's right, no more need to constantly shuffle around the best C.Cores between your characters again. Good riddance.

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________

| Getting Back Asch's Artes Early |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

If Asch, or anyone for that matter, is hacked in early, they won't have all their artes. So if you're starting a New Game+ and carrying over artes, I'd think it's fair to say Asch should then be able to start with all of his too. After Yulia City though, you won't even need to use this code again, so it's only for the first 10 hours of the game really.

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // All Artes Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 206D437C FFFFFFFF

| Experience Levels |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Okay, whenever Asch joins, his level is the same as Luke's. When Luke re-joins after the Ortion Cavern event, his level is the same as Asch's. So if you've had Asch until Yulia City, he loses his levels & stats and becomes like Luke. Don't level up Asch at all during this quest unless you want to screw Luke out of some C.Core stats. Wait till after you get Luke again, then you can change Asch's experience level to shoot back up a few levels in one battle. This code is also known as a "quick level gain." So you're just editing the value for the total amount of experience gained.

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Experience Modifier Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 206D42E8 xxxxxxxx
 |
 |Examples: - 0007A120 (500,000exp) will raise him to Lv63.
 |          - 05F5E0FF (99,999,999exp) will raise him to Lv200.

| Unlocking Lost Fon Drive |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Lost Fon Drive is the only 2nd Mystic Arte I believe to be appropriate for Asch to use, considering how similar he and Luke are, and that you usually have to forgo having Luke to use Asch. The fact that Asch can also wield the Key of Lorelei (after removing his Maetro equipment restriction) is a testament to this idea, since that sword is a necessary component to using LFD. So, in compensation for Namco not giving him his Binding Doom, here's the next best thing:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |MYSTIC ARTE: Lost Fon Drive // Character Restriction Disabled /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | D064B8AC 00005355
 | 2069AD28 00000000
 |
 |Using this code allows any character to use this Mystic Arte as long as all
 |its conditions are met in battle. Keep in mind, the Key of Lorelei must be
 |equipped, and you must have game clear data on your card, otherwise it will
 |not work at all. Apart from that, you must satisfy all of its other normal
 |conditions in battle. Unfortunately the mystic arte will use Luke's voice for
 |the battle quotes, as well as his cut-in. Also, this code is not saveable,
 |meaning that it must be on for it to work at all.

| General Information |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

The following are some details that you may not be aware of about Asch:

* Asch's FSC levels, skill usage, and kill count are all independent of Luke's, and they can also be carried over using the Grade Shop options. (i.e. Battle Data)

* Any FS Chambers you have equipped on Asch can always be regained either when he joins you again, or if you carry them over using the Grade Shop.

* None of Asch's spells receive speed casting bonuses from Cobalt Chambers, instead they receive extra pushing/lifting effects from them.

* Asch will always level up to Luke's current level each time the game has him join your party normally. Luke will only ever level up to Asch's current level after the Ortion Cavern event (when he wakes up in Yulia City).

* Asch comes with the same AD Skills as Luke when recruited normally. However, Asch's exclusive magic-based AD Skills have to be learned through C.Cores on his own. Also, those will carry over independently of Luke.

* Without a "complete party," you'll miss out on a number of skits (mostly in Eldrant). Of course, you'll also get to witness some that are exclusive to Asch, so it's somewhat of a trade-off.

______
| Pros |
¯¯¯¯¯¯

Here are the pros to having Asch if you recruit him normally using the "Map Trick," without using codes:

* Only Asch can wear Maestro equipment.

* Asch's Maestro Robe has a higher F.Def than any of Luke/Guy's armor.

* The Maestro Stone is as good as it is unique, as it reduces casting time and TP costs by 25%.

* Asch's Hand armor is naturally changeable.

* Asch can have all the same opportunities for C.Core bonuses as Luke, and actually has more than other characters (i.e. Natalia) if you get him at Level 2.

* Asch has a much faster Taunt than Luke.

* Asch begins with all of the techs that Luke learns through sidequests.

* Asch has all the same skills as Luke, in addition to several fonic spells, two of which are exclusive to him.

* Asch can spell-cancel, and do it better than anyone else.

* Asch can have ALL the AD skills.

* Rending Saber is a pretty decent Mystic Arte, even with the Maestro Sword.

* Asch's best title is gained just by having him join you at Mushroom Road.

* Asch can also use Mieu (getting him back depends on the timing of Asch's recruitment; see the last three paragraphs in section [2iaaa]).

* Asch can be used to fight the final boss.

Here are the additional pros to having Asch if you also have a hacking device for more liberties:

* You can unlock Asch's equipment, then you'll see that he can equip almost everything that Luke can (i.e. Soul Crush, Jewel of Lorelei, etc) without further need of codes.

* Catalyst weapons can become powered up for Asch too if you hack one onto his weapon slot.

* With Asch able to equip better swords, Rending Saber > Radiant Howl, hands down, since catalyst weapons lack any significant usefulness with RH once their power is finally unleashed anyway.

* If Asch has the Jewel of Lorelei equipped when you beat Sync in Eldrant, it won't disappear!

* Asch can use Lost Fon Drive flawlessly (with 2nd playthrough status) if he meets all of its conditions in battle, (the code must always be on though).

* Asch works flawlessly in the coliseum through the character mod, and can therefore fare against the cameos.

* Asch works flawlessly in Baticuloon using the character mod.

* Asch works flawlessly in the battle against Nebilim (but you must use the character mod if you want to complete Nebilim's last two sub-events first).

_______
| Cons |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Here are the cons to having Asch if you recruit him:

* Asch's weapon, armor, and "other" equipment cannot be removed without codes.

* The Maestro Sword becomes fairly outclassed by other weapons later.

* The Maestro Robe has fairly low P.Def later.

* The Maestro Stone also gets slightly outclassed by other accessories later.

* Even with unlocked equipment, Asch cannot wield any catalyst weapons without a hacking device.

* Every time the game gives/removes Asch in accordance to the story, his level is made equal to Luke's, and his stats and C.Core bonuses are reset (there's a cut-off point to this however).

* Luke has to be kept dead at Level 2 for most of the game if you want Asch to join at that level so he can gain more C.Core stats (unless you use a hacking device to equip him with a good C.Core before recruiting him).

* Asch's basic attacks are slower than Luke's (mostly irrelevant in comboing)

* Two of Asch's spells do not FOF change like Jade's do.

* Asch lacks a 2nd Mystic Arte (unless you give him one using a hacking device)

* Asch only has two titles and one costume.

* Asch prevents anyone from being able to enter the coliseum without a hacking device.

* You can't play Baticuloon with Asch unless you have a hacking device.

* Asch freezes the game at the final boss if a certain condition is not met.

* Asch doesn't have any animations when using Mieu (irrelevant).

* If Asch uses the Mieu Wings to go to a different screen (through an opening), the game freezes, (Tower of Rem only).

* The last 2 Catalyst weapons can't both be obtained using Asch, so you can't complete Nebilim's sidequest to fight her unless you have Mieu and use codes.

* You can't obtain the Jewel of Guardios while Asch is in your party (unless
you use codes).

* The final sub-event for Guy's Dashing Gent won't occur while Asch is in the party?

* Shiba's Aramis Spring/Keterburg event won't occur while Asch is in the party.

* Game Completion Data containing Asch but not Luke is glitched for new games started from that particular clear save. As long as Luke is there, it *should* be okay (this may need further testing).

______________________________
| Times/Places That Concern Asch |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

* Getting Asch at a Lv2; For those of you who don't have a hacking device to power up Asch the easy way, be sure not to use Luke by keeping him dead/switched of the party until the Mushroom Road sidequest. Also, don't level up Asch during the Ortion Cavern quest so as to not make Luke gain levels from him. This will allow Asch to join at the lowest level possible so he can take advantage of the Tutti core. (The easy way is to just hack the Tutti Core onto Asch for when he joins so he gets +4 to all stats for each of the levels gained from Luke).

* Keeping Asch; after entering Eldrant, the Mushroom Road sidequest closes. That means that if you return and get Luke back, you can no longer exchange him there for Asch again from then on, (Asch won't reappear). A reminder that you can only recruit Asch 3 times before going to Eldrant and that's it.

* The Tower of Rem; If Asch uses the Mieu Wings here to go to a different screen (through an opening), the game will freeze. The solution: just change your on-screen character.

* The Jewel of Guardios; Guy's sidequest for this sword can't be completed if Asch is present. So the only methods of getting this sword are to use either a weapon modifier and hack it in, or use the character modifier to sub Asch out just for that last event.

* The final boss battle; if Asch enters battle without Tear (or Luke) in the same battle party, the game will freeze as the battles begin.

* Game Completion Data Save; If you beat the final boss with Asch instead of Luke and you save your game when prompted, that new data-file will be glitched; so if you load it to start a new game through the Grade Shop, Luke will be absent from your menu! Since you need at least one character to fight in battle, the game will freeze as you enter Van's training session. The solution? When you're ready to make a new clear data save, go to Mushroom Road, get Luke back, go beat the final boss, and save your new clear data in a separate space. The other way around this is to start a new game with Asch's clear save and fix the glitch if you to use the character mod to place Luke in slot 1, and all will be normal.

| Using Asch In The Coliseum |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

NOTE: This is only possible using the character modifier code.

Load the game with the character mod code. Enter the coliseum with a complete party (which means 6 characters, no Asch). Save your game inside. Register at the desk for single/group rounds of battles. Afterward, press R1+R2+Start to hack in Asch, then go talk to the man at the door to enter the arena battles. You'll see that Asch physically appears inside without any problems.

When you finish battling, the party is reorganized, and depending on who you used to fight in the arena, one of the other characters will be removed from the party, leaving you with Asch and the other 5 characters (Luke included). So, once your battles are over, you'll probably want to use the character mod to change the characters around again.

__________________________________________
| Using Asch And Completing Nebilim's Sidequest |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

NOTE: This is only possible using the character modifier code.

The trigger for facing Nebilim is not dependant on solely on having all the Catalyst weapons in your inventory; it also depends on whether or not all of her sub-events were viewed and completed. The problem with having Asch through the "Map Trick" is that you can't acquire both of the final 2 catalysts. As long as Asch is in your party, the event with Florian in Daath for the Heart of Chaos, and the event in Eldrant for the Unicorn Horn will not occur unless Luke is there instead. Therefore, on any normal Asch game, Nebilim is off-limits.

So, if you want to complete the Nebilim sidequest, first of all make sure you can use Mieu! Then when you clear the Radiation Gate, enter Daath's cathedral with Luke (not Asch) and all the other characters (I suggest using the character mod to switch Luke in and out for this event). As long as you complete the Heart of Chaos event and have Mieu, you'll still be able to reach the sealed room in Eldrant where the Unicorn Horn is. There, again you'll need to use codes to briefly switch Asch for Luke so you can examine this catalyst weapon and acquire it. Afterward, make sure you witness the final scene at the foot of the stairs to the final boss.

If you've done all that, head over to Nebilim's Crag once you have the Refined Flightstone (or you can "Map Trick" your way there >_>) and you can finally fight her with Asch in your party!

| Combos |
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

I've added some good combos for Asch, ranging from simple to complex. Enjoy.

To perform any of the Asch's FOF-Cancel combos, you need:
* Mastered Sunlight Chambers on ALL artes that can FOF-Change.
* Mastered Cobalt Chambers recommended for "Rending" Arcane Artes.
* AD Skill: Super Chain (On)
* AD Skill: Ability Plus (On)

To cast spells quickly for more effective advanced combos, you need:
* AD Skill: Lucky End (On)
* AD Skill: Speed Cast (On)
* AD Skill: Magic End (On)
* AD Skill: Rythm (On)
* AD Skill: Reprise (On)

To instantly cast any of Asch's spells, you need:
* AD Skill: Spell Save (On)
* AD Skill: Resilience (Off)
* AD Skill: Glory (Off)
(To perform a Spell Save, get hit, or OL Cancel while delaying it. Next time you cast it, it comes out instantly).

Optional, but these make it easier to reach higher combos:
* AD Skill: Add Combo 4 (On)
* AD Skill: Jump Combo (On)
* AD Skill: Landing (On)
* AD Skill: OL Boost (On)

A few notes...
* Use Stalagmite for Spell Cancelling, since it's Asch's only Lv1 spell, as it can allow for Arcane Arte chains (since this spell counts as a Base Arte).
* For the fastest Spell Cancelling, bring your spell usage up 999.
* SC (Spell Cancel)
* OL (Overlimit)
* OLC (OL Cancel)

Simple Combos:

Devil's Inferno > Burning Havoc

Demon Fist > Devil's Inferno > Burning Havoc

Devil's Inferno > Shadow Fury

Basic FOF-Cancel Combos:

Rending Thrust > Slag Assault > Rending Thrust > Devil's Maw

Rending Thrust > Slag Assault > Rending Thrust > Rending Quake

Rending Thrust > Slag Assault > Rending Thrust > [Arcane Arte]

Fang Blade > Sonic Blast > Fang Blade > Lightning Tiger Blade

Havoc Strike > Lightning Blade > Fang Blade > Light Blast

Intermediate Combos:

Atk x7 > Rending Thrust > SC > Atk x7 > Rending Thrust > SC...(Repeat)

OL > Atk x7 > Rending Thrust > SC > Atk x7 > Rending Thrust > Light Spear Cannon > Rending Saber

(Need Cobalt Chamber on Fang Blade)
OL > Atk x7 > Sonic Blast > Fang Blade > Atk x7 > Sonic Blast > Fang Blade > Fang Blade Rage > Rending Saber

Havoc Strike > Rending Havoc > SC > Atk x7 > Devil's Inferno > Rending Thrust > SC > Shadow Fury

OL > Stalagmite > Atk x5 > Devil's Inferno > Havoc Strike > Shadow Fury > Rending Saber

OL > Atk x7 > Havoc Strike > Rending Havoc > SC > Atk x7 > Havoc Strike > Rending Thrust > Fang Blade Havoc > Rending Saber

Advanced Combos:

(Spell Save for Thunder Blade)
Atk x7 > Havoc Strike > Rending Thrust > Thunder Blade > OL > Atk x3 > Rending Thrust > Rending Blast > Lightning Tiger Blade > Rending Saber

Stalagmite > Fang Blade > Rending Thrust > Devil's Inferno > Havoc Strike > Rending Blast > Thunder Blade > OLC > Light Spear Cannon > Rending Havoc > Lightning Tiger Blade > Rending Saber

^This awesome 64 hit combo can be seen here.

I'll add more eventually...there's still room to get creative. Feel free to post some of your own unique combos. Big flashy ones are always nice.

Here are some ARMAX conversions for most of the codes in my guide:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Master Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | (M)Action Replay MAX
 | VAEH-7ZMY-385CR
 | M6KE-BMGC-W8RW7
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

This is the new working character modifier code to change which character is in slot 1. Enter the ENTIRE thing:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Character Modifier Code, Slot 1 // (Joker'd) /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | NJ06-EUVV-CT38G | Luke    (L1+R1 +L2)
 | HMK9-DJWF-WK04C | Tear    (L1+R1 +R2)
 | VD7G-GNGZ-TQEAZ | Jade    (L1+R1 +Square)
 | KRYX-67XE-XBR5C | Anise   (L1+R1 +X)
 | 8V5G-CPM4-FUEM9 | Guy     (L1+R1 +O
 | 5XHD-1RG8-3TBJC | Natalia (L1+R1 +Select)
 | 8TXW-7DR3-YJX19 | Asch    (L1+R1 +Start)
 | NM9Z-F1BC-WGVDW
 | Z55A-U01A-BYA96
 | WZBA-VD0A-ED4TX
 | GRGP-2TUE-N8W4U
 | 9PW5-MWBG-2HECZ
 | 49RX-W7Y9-MHHRW
 | F2FQ-R3QK-8KBYE
 | PWTZ-T6BE-EYQBE
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Here's a conversion of that quickfix to fill up/rearrange your party with all characters should anything happen out of the ordinary, (the same notes from above apply):

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Party Modifier /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 50BK-R2U2-P7269
 | Z347-G876-0CFTK
 | 4WA7-URMP-PQ371
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

The following codes unlock Asch's sealed equipment slots (enter them as separate entries on the codelist):

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equiment Modifier Codes /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | 8F0Q-XH8F-2DJA9 -- Weapon: Nebilim
 | XPPG-ED3F-Q5TJX
_|_____________________________________________________________________________
 |
 | WN2P-2899-22MH3 -- Body:   Nothing
 | QV9D-UKR1-E08UN
_|_____________________________________________________________________________
 |
 | AP35-GVMU-PY8XD -- Other:  Nothing
 | 9HYY-RXKF-7EKU4
 |
 |*The above codes empty Asch's "Body" and "Other" slots, and equip him with
 |the Nebilim. Save the game with these on, then reload the game without them,
 |then you can manually equip all his slots normally just like any other
 |character.
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

And if for whatever reason you'd like to restore any of Asch's equipment to his default Maestro ones (which you can't change manually again):

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equiment Modifier Codes /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | EXDP-U709-7AVM6 -- Weapon: Maestro Sword
 | V5MP-6EGU-VB1FR
_|_____________________________________________________________________________
 |
 | RB2K-XDCT-GPPA9 -- Body:   Maestro Robe
 | ZKDC-8K3K-62NWD
_|_____________________________________________________________________________
 |
 | CA00-ZR07-4ZGDV -- Other:  Maestro Stone
 | BN84-M71J-QMB3P
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

As for changing Asch's C.Core:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equipped C.Core Modifier Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | NCZ0-F850-NMWTC -- Asch has Tutti Core equipped
 | HYX2-0TK7-YZZ48
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equipped C.Core Modifier Code /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | Z917-7NB0-HAB9P -- Asch has no C.Core equipped
 | EA7C-JAAA-XW71W
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

And now for using Lost Fon Drive:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |MYSTIC ARTE: Lost Fon Drive // Character Restriction Disabled /
 |¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
 | MVH6-9NM8-EJPBK
 | JEC9-U2RB-K1CR5
 | R59F-VYZE-0MZJP
 |
 |Using this code allows any character to use this Mystic Arte as long as all
 |its conditions are met in battle. Keep in mind, the Key of Lorelei must be
 |equipped, and you must have game clear data on your card, otherwise it will
 |not work at all. Apart from that, you must satisfy all of its other normal
 |conditions in battle. Unfortunately the mystic arte will use Luke's voice for
 |the battle quotes, as well as his cut-in. Also, this code is not saveable,
 |meaning that it must be on at all times for it to work.
 |___________________________________________________________________________
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

The following codes are a few extra equipment modifiers several lazy bums asked me to convert for them >_>:

Code:
_______________________________________________________________________________
 |Asch // Equiment Modifier Codes /
 |¯¯¯¯¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

* If anyone wants to convert more of their own codes from all the Raw ones in my guide, just use Max Convert, which you can download for free here. You'll need an extractor program like WinRAR to unzip it from its .rar file, so if you don't have something capable of that, you can also download one free here.

* To convert codes to ARMAX, first set the Input to ARMAX, then paste the ARMAX Master code into the Input and hit convert. This will provide a game ID (for TotA it's 09B6). Now clear the Input, set it to Raw, and then set the Output to ARMAX. Now you can paste any Raw codes from the main guide into the Input section and convert them to ARMAX codes. (Also watch for trailing spaces if you cut and paste!)

Thank you Ryukie, glad you like it! Actually there's also a bigger, fuller version of it on gamefaqs as well now, (though this one here is slightly more updated in the General Info section at the moment, along with a few grammatical revisions).

See my 2nd post for ARMAX codes now.

LunarDemise wrote:

No, the codes at the top of the guide are only for Codebreaker, Xploder, Gameshark, and Action Replay. Anyway if you ask me, picking up a Codebreaker would be the best choice, whereas an ARMAX would be the worst (it has the stupidest and most inconvenient form of encryption ever. CBs are so much simpler with Raw code, and much faster).

This is great, and thorough, but there is something else. While I recruited Asch at Mushroom Road (not sure what time) after proceeding with the story normally, I went to Grand Chokmah at the military base (I think) and as I was heading toward the exit of town, there was an event where there was some sort of commotion and Natalia runs off to "save" the citizens, the party runs off after Natalia as usual in the scene. You enter in the map where you can go to the left to look at the castle.

I think, usually, Luke does something here, because even if you go anywhere that is where the game allows you to go in Grand Chokmah, it won't change anything. Heading back to the map where the cut-scene occurs, it repeats.

I'm not sure if that has to do with a sidequest or not; I haven't experienced anything of that sort, (I did only a few sidequests in my last playthrough though). I'll need more information on both the timing, and the conditions that led to this glitch you had. I'll also need someone else to confirm it, if possible.

Awesome. I didn't know there were so many Asch codes.

If I use the equipment code to get the Key of Lorelei or Jewel of Gardios will I have to worry about my game being screwed up?

No, those ones are safe to get early; they won't affect the game/story any differently Wink

The only ones to avoid hacking in early are the catalyst weapons.

I'm not familiar with GS Media---as far as I know, there was a way to play imports/burned games with the old Action Replay (not MAX), but other than that, you need Swap Magic 3.6+, a modchip, or a Japanese PS2 (imports only). Therefore, you'll probably need to invest in two things here.

If you're going to get into import games, save yourself the trouble and buy a Japanese PS2, and a CB. My single greatest regret is getting Swap Magic and ruining my first PS2 trying to mod the rear sensor manually (because Tool C of the magic keys was practically useless). With the money I spent buying another NA PS2, I could've simply bought a JPN one.

You can't collect the Heart of Chaos or the Unicorn Horn while Asch is in the party. Those Nebilim events simply will not commence unless you have all 6 normal party members. The only way to get both catalysts is by hacking, for instance, with a character mod code to sub Asch out temporarily for those events.

I may seem a little... whiny... but I had a problem with your ARMAX converted codes (all of them). The Character modifier code wasn't accepted in the disc, and the rest got a message saying (You entered a code for the wrong game). Is this just for me, or what? Having only an ARMAX really cuts back on the codes i have...
