Tales of Destiny has a unique battle engine. Tales is a role playing game which allows the player to fight in real time, while still including the interactions and conventions of traditional RPGs (Role Playing Games).

Playing this one-of-a-kind game involves moving the hero Stahn Aileron and his party through their adventures. In the game, there are three main types of screens which change automatically according to the action in the game.

  1. Map Screen: A map screen can be wide angle, as in the GSM (Global Sphere Map); or it can have a more intimate, close-up view, as in the Active Party Window.

  2. Battle Screen: When you come across baddies or engage in activities which warrant battle-type action, the battle screen appears. Battles are conducted using the E-LMB (Enhanced Linear Motion Battle) System. As your characters have success in conquering foes, they gain experience which helps them improve their skills.

  3. Menu Screen: To check on the status of your characters and swordians, as well as their belongings and attributes, or if you just want to use some of the commands, you summon the Menu Screen.

Tales of Destiny has an RPG engine which includes standard attributes such as health, experience, strength, intelligence, and luck. The combination RPG elements and the E-LMB and all the unique Spells, Special Skills, Weapons, Armor and strategy makes it easy to wage devastating battles.
